Sun shade for Hema 5 Navigator

Hi All,

Just started using my Hema 5 and wondering what sort/brand of sun shade you people are using.
I see where Gone Bush purchased one on ebay that a lot of others are using as well, would like some info and pics of them if possible please.

Also is it possible to have Route 66 uninstalled and the new i Go program installed to a Hema 5 ?

Thanks and cheers

i ended up mounting it over the mirror as i have all the gear on the back so dont use it any way, easy to see and always in the shade, just used double sided tape and un-clip it when i park it up .... keeps it cooler also ..
Cheers, Joe

Hema make one that works for me, the only thing that is annoying is that you need to move the sunshade to turn the unit on but overall no problems

Thanks Michael,
Good to hear your satisfied with one.
I looked at them on this site but to be honest they are well over a reasonable selling price.

Some of the earlier models of the HN5 may be able to be upgraded to the iGo street navigation application.

If your device serial number has a prefix HN5A1209......... then you're out of luck.
Some newer models can have the iGo software installed in place of Route66.

Hema Navigator Models

I also have the Hema brad clip-on visor and yes, you need to lift it off to use the power button.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the info you submitted.

I rang Hema today and they are going to update Route 66 and Oziexplorer to the latest maps, put a new battery in it (although it's had no use) and pay return postage for $80-00 for me.

I think that's a pretty good deal and they supply an email telling they are doing this, and a detailed receipt as proof.

Cheers P&J

Yes, I bought a shade off Ebay. I think Jaycar have them too. Just get one to suit a 5" GPS.

I extended the shade by putting some very thin alloy sheeting onto it. I just used silicon and got some rubber from Clark Rubber to run along the edge
.

Well Gone Bush, I must say thank you very much.
Great pics and the modded shade looks good.

I will have a look on ebay as I need one for my TomTom as well that is used in our other vehicle.

Thanks and cheers P&J

If you mount the unit as high on the windscreen as possible you will not need a sun shade. I have mine on the passenger side of the rear view mirror in an NP Pajero and it works fine with no sun glare at all. It does not have to be positioned under glass like the "old days" and will work fine directly under the metal vehicle roof. I purchased a sun shade and found them to be cumbersome and would fall off on rough roads. I have wired up a power outlet under the dash and have routed the power wires up the pillars and under the head liner. I also converted the small USB input to a right angle for neatness.

HEMA will install the iGo software onto the Hema 5 for you, but will charge for the service. I have used both and found that the Route 66 software was useless, hard to use and very "un Australian" in regards to updates and maps; iGo is much much better.

" Sorry this option is no longer performed by us " is the reply I got from Hema Head Technical Manager.
