Hi Guys
We are thinking we need to upgrade to caravan/poptop for any future long trips (2 or 3 months) . The A'Van bed is East/ West and we think it is time to go an island bed, so one does not disturb the other when nature calls in the night. We don't want to stretch the budget to the vans with ensuite built in so are looking at alternatives. We do have "porta Potti" which has proven to be a lifesaver in some campsites.
We missed a readers idea, of an ensuite in the annexe, in Sept issue of Caravan World, which maybe you have seen and would pass on or we would like to know what others have done to make things a little more comfy when travelling

Regards and thanks

trouble is, on long trips, you are not going to be putting the annexe up - only when you are settled long enough to justify the wrestling match with volumes of canvas. In fact, like ourselves, you'll probably find that most experienced vanners have long since abandoned the annexe, with it's initial cost, extra weight and storage room required as well as the putting up. On top of that, they do feel restrictive as opposed to the freedom of sitting outside and being able to see the stars and have a chat to passers by when on site. Personal choice, of course as they still have some popularity but we finally realised how little we used ours on successive vans. Don't know your budget but you can get a corner ensuite van for the low $30,000s. We'll be selling our 08 Jayco Discovery ensuite after Christmas hols or possibly trading in. Only expecting around $32000. There are more coming on the market now they've been around awhile.

keep workin hard mate - that's what I'm doing and hopefully will have my new one around easter, give or take. I'm buggered if I'm getting a loan from those money grabbing sharks who make record profits every year and still complain about their operational costs.

Brian, if you don't want to be putting the annexe up all the time, Tebbs canvas make a shower/toilet surround which can be attached to the van where you want it.
It's a heavy duty poly material with a sewn in floor and it also has a drain you can attach a sullage hose to drain it after showering.
It's listed on their website but there are no photo's to show how it looks.
I found a brochure they gave me at Leisurefest last month and I've copied it below. It's not cheap at $327 but it's sure cheaper than buying a new van.
I think this is the way I'll probably go as it looks easy to set up and take down.
I've got a 17'6" single axle poptop we own and I can't for the life of me consider upsizing when I'm basically happy with what we have apart from the van being an "on road" version.
Or more correctly WAS an "on road" van, it's had some major alterations chassis and suspension wise to get it do what I want.
Regards Andrew.

Have you considered one of those pop-up shower/toilet tents?

Cheers,
