My son finishes year 12 in a few weeks and he wants to go away on a trip before he starts Uni or Work in 2013, so I've been tasked with coming up with trip ideas and thought I'd ask for a few suggestions from the good people here.
I think the timeframe will only be about 7 days. We'll have a vehicle each and will be swagging it.
We're based in south west Vic, so trips into S.A. are good. I love the SA outback but I reckon it will too hot for most
places in SA at that time of year.
I was also thinking of the
Border Track, but that may be too hot as
well????
All suggestions greatly appreciated.

Siringo.
SW Vic gives you good access to some good trips in SA. eg, follow the coastline road from
Portland to
Adelaide and beyond, or make a bee-line for
Yorke Peninsula and visit the coastal areas, or head to
Goolwa and stick to the
Murray River back into Vic until you run out of time.
The outback/ Lower
Flinders Ranges is still a possibility. Just check the 7 day forecast before you go.
If you want to stay in caravan parks, you would be pretty sure of a spot without booking, as long as you're home by about 14th Dec. Your swags add some flexibility to your accommodation needs.
I hope your son goes
well and good luck for the trip.
Bob

The lower Flinders should still be OK for a few days in late Nov.
Whyalla tourist centre has a good tour of the Corvette "Whyalla" parked outside its door and a tour of the steel works there is good value as
well. Could be interesting to a
young fella.
Camping along the Murray should offer some reasonable weather in late November as
well and be a little more laid back given your time frame.
Seven days is not a long time but if that is all you have then that is all you have.
You could do a tour along the Murray from Wentworrth to the Mouth of the Murray.
There is plenty to see and do along that route.
Cheers, Bruce.

Lower Flinders would be OK. Willangi,
Melrose (
Mount Remarkable national park) etc.
Border Track would be OK that time I year (compared to further up north). It is a little short if you want to drive most days (but if you want to stay in a place for a few days or more then no problem).
Robe/
Beachport might also be an option?
If you're into walking then south of
Port Augusta is a place called Mambray
Creek. Nice
camping with facilities and great walking.

Katarapko and
Loch Luna, in the Riverland, SA, (near
Berri and
Kingston) are nice spots on the Murray, with National Parks campsites. You can hire canoes from Canoe Adventures,
Berri, for 1 or more days, to add some variety. Hope you both have fun, wherever you go.
