I have recent done a tour of Central Australia including the Oodnadatta Track. During this trip along the track my Tambo Camper received a number of stone chips. I want to touch these areas up but am unsure as to the correct colour of the trailer. Can any one help, I think its grey hammertone but I am not 100%.

Scott,

Some time ago, when Tambo was still in business !!!!!, I made this inquiry with Keith. I have the details on a sticky note at my desk at work, but I am 99% certain that the colour is called Charcoal and it is made by Wagon Paints. I will check at work tomorrow, and if it is any different to what I have indicated, I will post it here. Last time I re-did my trailer, [touch-up] I got a couple of spray cans from Tambo. Now that they are no longer in business, I'm not sure where to get it. If you find out, can you let us know? I want to completely re-do mine when I get the time. I might ring Wagon Pains and ask myself.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks Dave,

I will wait to see how you got on with Wagon Paints. Need to fix the stone chips up before I sell her. Its a 2011 only done the one trip, haven't got the time to use her, but you have to admit they are a great all Australian unbreakable camper.

Scott,
White Knight Charcoal from Bunnings is very close, about half a shade out, and is OK.

Yes that is the one I have been using all along, actually it was suggested by Keith himself.

Cheers Rob.

From the Tambo Campers Notes :

Paint
Even with stoneguards, stones find ways to chip paintwork. The closest commercially available touch up spray paint is White Kniqht hammertone "Charcoal". This paint is half a shade darker than the factory paint but will keep the trailer looking smart and protected.

The original paint used is made by Waqon Paints in Bayswater Victoria and is called
Hammerdrv Gunmetal. Minimum quantity is 4 litres as they are not a retail outlet.

The full doc can be found my googling "Tambo Camper Notes" if you want a copy.

I have sourced some paint from Wagon Paints. They were very helpful and believe the colour that I am after is their Charcoal hammertone.

However they did tell me if the colour was to dark and that Gunmetal hammertone was the correct colour that they would exchange them over. As I said they were very helpful.

I will do my touch ups next week when the garage is not as full. I will let you know how I get on. Thanks very much for your help.

I've got a heap of stone chips to touch up and would really appreciate the confirmation.

Cheers.

I have just done a small test section and it looks pretty close. Will know more when it has had a chance to dry and I see it in the natural light, but it looks initially pretty close. I will keep you in the loop.

I have touched up my Tambo Camper Trailer using Wagon Paints hammertone Charcoal. It is a touch lighter than the original paint. But you would have to really look and know where the touch ups are to pick it. I beleive that the Gunmetal which is lighter will be too light for the camper. SO WAGON PAINTS CHARCOAL HAMMERTONE IS THE GO.
