M&N's
newbie to the site and hoping someone can help with my problem. Have a 2008 Mazda BT50SDX auto. When I start the car the LOW4WD dash indication comes on but is not actually engaged and I can drive off as normal[i.e.2WD].The light will go out eventually'Two things I have noted while lights are on, the speedo will not go above 25kph and on some occasions the light goes out if I go up a steepish rise/
hill. Over to you with everything crossed hoping someone else has experience this and sorted it.Also on the side am touring around Tasmania towing 2 tonne van an am doing 17-20lper100k with O/D deselected.Top shelf state [wet] but with plenty to experience Ta Mick

Just recently I read, on another
forum site, something about that sort of thing happening to BT50.
It seems silly this would be the problem but the poster said they found either the brake fluid is low, the radiator was low or the washer bottle was low. I'm not sure which one it was but when topped up the light went away.
Possibly yours may be the same.
Hope this allows you to
check and see.
If I find the article I will paste it in here.
Cheers
Ross M

hi m&n's
your not going to believe this
but my 1997 mazda bravo sdx diesel with manual gearbox started doing the same thing after i towed a car that was bogged on sunday
i engaged 4wd L i have auto front hubs after the tow was finished i took it out of 4wd L and put it back in 2wd H pushed the rfw switch to disengage the front hubs and drove
home next day and every time since when i turn the key on the 4wd L indicator lights up on the dash even though the gear lever is in 2wd high
i now have to push the rfw switch each time i go to start it or the 4wd L light stays on
i dont have any low fluid levels and cant see for the life of me how that could have one ounce to do with an electrical connection on my old mazda transfer case without any ecu equiptmt one might as
well say the lights on because i'm not holding my hat on my head when i start it
i thinks that over the top fantasy speculation by some one without any mechanical knowledge
and im not having a go at
Ross M as he was only relating what he'd been told and /or heard
i havent been underneath yet but i do know there is a small steel rod /plunger that is pushed up on
mine when i move the lever into 4wd L to push on the small ball in the switch and then it suppose to drop back down to allow the 4wd light switch to go off
i personelly believe my ball switch is sticking in the on position or it may have shorted out for some reason but i havent been off rd since the transfer case was out in may 2012
but maybe a cat has been climbing around underneath ?????
i can get the switch plug out while the transfer box is on the vehicle so will be looking at that in the near future next week
a sticking and/or faulty switch is the most likely cause i had one bugger-up on my jeep cherokee year ago and had to replace it
cheers

Thanks for your replies, checked all fluid levels and all okay so no joy there. Went to
Gordon dam today with low 4wd light all aglow and steep hills/mountains did not make light go out but somewhere along the way it finally cleared.Had another look at back of autobox/transfer case but could not see any obvious switchs of any kind.Just a couple of solinoids [
well sealed] and a wiring harness with one wire disappearing into back of box. With the auto there is no dash switch to select front hubs, they are auto slected when 4wd is selected.Guess I will have to live with it till back on mainland as I don't want to get to the stage of making car undrivable. Thanks again for your input Ta Mick
