Hi all
my partner and I are planning our first trip for mid next year.
First day we plan to head towards Roma if not further towards rubyvale. Finding somewhere to stop over night on the way.
A night or two in rubyvale and then continuing onto Longreach for a couplen nights. After this we will head to Cloncurry then finally karumba for a few days.
We will be traveling in the cruiser with a rooftop tent so are looking for free stays on our over night stays.
Was wondering if anyone can give us advice on places to stay and things not to miss along the way.
Unfortunately our trip is only for 2-3 weeks
but we are looking forward to hitting the road for our first trip.
Any advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi Stacy, We have a copy of Camps 5. Its on our table at the moment because were planning our next trip. I have a look at Google maps then use a Hema map. Seems you have plenty of time. Where approx are you coming from. We try to use a different road each trip.
Do you want to divert from Burke & Wills R/H to Lawn Hill then Burketown and across to Karumba.
On the way home Einasleigh and Undara comes to mind.
Have a great trip.

Agree with all the OG has said. In addition you might have a play with all the info that's stored under the "Places" button in the blue bar at the top of this page.

We have done trips in some of outback Qld and have written blogs about our trips - click on the blogs link beside our signature. Or use the search button in the top RH corner of this page, just searching on some of the towns you might pass through.

Enjoy the planning for your trip, it can be a very rewarding part of the trip. Just avoid overplanning - leave room to be flexible so that you can explore opportunities that arise once you are on the road.

Cheers,

Val.

Old Girl - We will be leaving from Gympie.
Thinking of purchasing the camps book, may come in handy.
Have had a look at some maps and google and your idea to head from Burke and Wills R/H to Gregory Downs then up to Burketown and along to Normaton along the Savannah Way may be the way to go. The rest of the trip is all sealed roads so this part will b a adventure. Also looks like there is alot to see.
On our way home we are thinking heading east towards Mount Suprise so Undara may be a stopover, then down to Charters towers, Emeral, Rockhampton then straight down the Bruce Highway to home.
thanks for the help :)

John and Val - thanks for the help with finding my way around this website. I am about to check out your blogs and the places.
Cheers for the help...

Have a good think about stopping at Winton.

Good town and the swaggie centre is second to none.

Have a good trip,
RA.

The Savannah Way across north Qld is a great trip. Don't miss Cobbold Gorge (good campground-magic place) or the amazing Rock Museum atGeorgetown. Also do some prospecting around Mt Surprise (eqipment and guidance available) - stay at Bedrock Caravan Park or camp out near the prospecting area in a well set up campground. Lynne
