Hi Folks
Got an old Electrolux 210 3 way fridge in my Hiace.
The gas is plugged in fine and works of that no problem.
It seems the 240v may not be working, which may not be that much of a big deal to start off with. But the 12V is not connected, and is the one I'm trying to sort out. I find two standard wires coming off the fridge, a black and blue, the black is wired to the chassis, as a ground I presume, but the blue one makes its way somewhere towards the alternator but not connected. I can see a short unused wire coming from the alternator which looks like the two may have been connected once upon a time.
Can not find a wiring diag for fridge so not sure what is what.
Can i connect the wire from the fridge into the one coming from the alternator, meaning when the van is driven the fridge is looking off 12v? Or is there some other way this should be wired.
Cheers

Hi Luke,
Generally, the active wire from the fridge terminates at the primary battery (if there is only one battery) and the circuit protected by an in-line fuse.
If you are relying on only your starting battery, it is a good idea to protect it from over discharge by the use of a low voltage cutout device. These can be bought for under $30. Running the fridge for any length of time on 12 volts is not a good idea as these fridges draw a fair amount of current when running.
If the fridge 12 volt supply is connected directly to the alternator, it would only receive voltage when the engine is running and this may not be a good thing when stopping for a while during a trip. However your battery should cope OK for stoppages of less than an hour or so, especially with the inclusion of the low voltage cutout device.

On the second page it gives you the wiring diagram.

With the link you have to copy all the address except for the (.pdf) at the end.
Once you have copied it into your web browser at the end add (.pdf)
Disregard the ( )

OTOH, If you do get the 12v working and you only have one battery in the van then I would only run in on 12v when you have the engine running as it will kill the battery quickly. 3 way fridges are power hungry on 12v.

it possibly runs off 12v via a realy hence the wire to the alternator?
I bought a van and it ran off the battery with the relay actuated ffrom power from the coil
this prevents you running the battery flat when its turned off and forget

There was a relay, but nothing was wired to the connectors. No idea why. Not sure what goes where, so may just get a auto-elec to have a look at it.
