I was wondering if any knowledgeable people can advise on the shortest route from Bluff Hut to Craig's Hut. I have the Hema maps but was wondering if there are any locked gates preventing access to some of the tracks. Specifically Bluff Link Road and Bindaree Road. There also appears to be a shortcut track up to Craig's Hut from Bindaree Rd over The Monument. Any info appreciated. Cheers.

When I was down there earlier in the year Bluff Link Road was closed, you had to go via 16 mile Jeep track, passed Bindaree Hut then up Monument Track. No locked gates then.

My plan at the moment is-

Sydney, Thredbo, Tom Groggin, Davies High Plain Track, Omeo, Great Alpine Rd to Hotham Heights, Dargo High Plains Rd (Blue Rag), Dargo, King Billy Track to Bluff Hut, Cut across to Craig's Hut as per above, Mt Stirliing/Buller, Mansfield, Sydney

Time is limited due to work commitments. I'd like to see a few good tracks, lookouts, huts and river crossings. Are there any places on that route that you think are special, or tracks not mentioned in the area that may be better? Cheers

Hi Mikehzz,

I was there last weekend. If you're looking for a day trip in the area, go to the EOTrackMe tab and look up my trip plot under Rob K (Vic) from 10/11/2012. You should be able to download the plot if you want. Went into the area via Sheep Yard Flat and visited Picture Point lookout, Lovicks Hut, Bluff Hut, Bindaree Hut, Bindaree Falls. Didn't do Monument Trk. Craigs Hut is inaccessible at the moment because the northern part of the Circuit Rd is still closed until end December.Bluff Link Rd is still closed so you'll need to use Sixteen Mile Jeep Trk to get to Bluff Hut from Brooks Rd. Back to Mansfield via Howqua Gap Hut and Mt Stirling Rd.

Going down in the week between Christmas and New Year so a bit of a lightening visit. If we can't fit things in we can bail and take the tar. Thanks for all the info.

hi the best thing to do is call the DSE in Mansfield , they have just released information on which roads are now open
. Call them on 03 5733 1200.
monument track is not easy .
enjoy your trip
