I have a Ford Courier PE 2000 2.5 TD
I received my 'new' reconditioned gearbox and started putting it in today when it all turned to manure.
Whilst I was placing the sender unit for the 4wd light, the larger sender forward of the transfer case, the metal contact bullet that needs to be slide in, fell into the box. the rear sender for reverse is no problem at all as it buts up against the plate inside the box.
Im confused as how it slide past the backing plate, but regardless it now lies in the box. My options are to rattle it around in the hope it can pop back out the sender hole - heavy unit to shake like a money box. OR send it off again to have it cracked for the removal of the bullet.
Has anyone had any similar experience or some advice?
Thanks

If you can rattle it down near the oil drain hole area you should be able to grab it with one of those small telescopic magnets. Cheers,Bob.

The drain plug maybe magnetic and it is attached to it already? Maybe worth a quick check? Good luck.

Bugger!!. My son gave me an Aldi flexible inspection camera which gives you a picture of what the tiny video camers is seeing but it also has a magnetic pick up extension head in front of the camera which might help grab it. I don't know the cost but I reckon under $50.
Are you in Sydney?

hi workhorse
yes i know the little piece of rod or plunger you are talking of as one of mine on my mazda bravo got lost during a g/box rebuild and i had to make one for the 4wd low indicator light
i would suggest same as others you can buy the magnetic flexible retrievers from supercheap and repco stores dont cost much and it will most likely pick it out of the box depending of course where it has lodged and i would not roll the box around at all until you have tried above
but you have probably done that by now in desperation ????
cheers

hi
it is small enough to lodge in the tooth of one of the gogs and would smash the gears if they were turning
but you already know that
but unless you actually retrieve it i wouldnt be trying to drive it
yes its the worst scenario and really annoying when something like that happens
i was lucky mine was lost externally so only had to make another
cheers

Thanks gentlemen for your advice. I ended up hoisting the gearbox up on the pulley and jostling it and low and behold it poked its head over the hole and with some delicate magnetic pick up work removed it.
im buggered to know how its meant to sit there without falling back in as the channel it sits in is too short to support the bullet for its length. After losing a days work, ageing a few more years Ive decided to leave it out. I just dont get the 4wd light on the dash.
Hey Q how did you get it too sit without losing it?
