Hi, we are coming to the end of our lazy lap of oz and will be somewhere between
Adelaide and
Melbourne for Christmas. I'd appreciate some help finding a good place to stop for a few days and have Christmas celebrations. We have 3
young kids, 7, 5 & 3. Free camps, national parks and caravan parks all considered, we just want something special and preferably some where we can book ahead.
Thanks for your help, guys :)

Robe is great if you like
the beach, Wyperfeld is a nice place, but remote, The
grampians is very nice, and relaxing and has abundant kangaroos at Zumsteins and great food in the town. Then theres Mt Gambier, bigger place with lots to see for a few days.
It all really depends on what your view of celebrations is.
But whatever it is, hope you have a great time

We have spent Christmas a few times at
Robe. There is a range of parks and CPs and they should not be full until just after Christmas. Also some excellent 4 WD tracks along the coastal dune system to be explored.
If you would like to be closer to
Melbourne, I would recommend the Marengo CP at
Apollo Bay but may be too late to book?
Have a great Christmas Astro.

Another great free
camp spot is right in the small country town of Tantanoola.
It is between Millicent & Mt. Gambier.
Beautiful shady trees, lovely kids playground,
toilets,
dump point, rain
water tank all
straight over the road from the iconic "Tiger Hotel", where the tiger is on display.
Very central safe place to leave your van set up and do easy day trips to
Robe,
Beachport,
Carpenter Rocks,
Canunda National park (best sand drive in Aussie),
Mt. Gambier, Coonawarra and all that region.
No need to race to get a spot at Tantanoola, there is plenty of free camps in the shade along the disused railway track.
We quite often pull in there for a night or two on our way home from a trip to wind down before continuing on home which is only 35 kms from Tantanoola.
