Hi

My Sony SA 13 inch laptop is pretty good in the sun, it was one of the reasons I bought it, along with the 10 hour battery life, the fact it can project wireless in HD to my TV's (yes no cords) and the fact it has a built in modem = no stupid dongle hanging out the side. This laptop is also a year and a half old I might add.
Google B&H Photo, they ship direct to OZ. I bought my Sony straight out of the USA via Sony style but this can be a bit of a pain getting it shipped here as they wont ship direct like B&H do, much cheaper and higher spec model that was available here.
Your are after a mat finished screen.
If you don't get the answer you are after here join whirlpool forum, it is a computer forum based in Australia and a lot of helpful people use it.

Asus Transformer prime is the brightest I have been able to find. 570 cd/m2 which is about 20% brighter than an IPAD retina or Samsung Note 10.1 which are about 430 cd/m2

Also get a matt screen protector for outdoors.

From my experience it is more about the screen type than the brightness. The polished screen type is great under artificial light but useless even in the shade outdoors.

The polished screens of the Nexus 7 and iPad seemed not to render them useless in the trial I just performed.

Cheers,
Have done a fair bit of investigation since and it appears the new Asus Tab 810c due out later this month is the go .

Anthony,

I just went outside with the Nexus 7 and the iPad (original version). At 1200 in full sun (two days after the summer solstice and on the way to 40 degrees) with OziExplorer, and MudMaps respectively, both are easily viewable. The iPad seems a bit brighter, but the Nexus 7 is still easy to see.

On a recent trip, both were easily viewable in real world out door navigation situations. Of course, inside the car, or under a tree, view ability was even better.

Well there you go! Technology, I'm running behind the times it would seem. Glad to hear I'm wrong and the old screens are disappearing!

Cheers

Back lit screens are the best ones to get, apparently, as I found out after I bought an Acer Tablet for SWMBO but didn't specify my needs it's very hard to view anywhere that isn't within some shade.

I have a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Tablet loaded with OziExplorer.

I originally had a screen protector I bought from JB HiFi (only one they sell) and found it useless in the car due to the high reflection of the gloss screen.

Asked at a store at our local shopping centre, if they had a matt one to suit the galaxy Tab and the girl said to bring the tablet in as they have various sizes to suit different models. I already had a matt screen protector for my iPhone which was excellent.
It was one of those stall type stores in the middle of the mall that sells phone covers as well as screen protectors for mobile phones, etc. Possibly Phone Mania or "something"Tel.

Took the tablet in and the lass fitted the protector on the spot. Cost was about $20.00 from memory.

It works extremely well, cutting down all glare while using it in the car especially.
The tablet itself already has great screen resolution for outdoor use.

Just make sure you specify a MATT screen protector.
