I'm about to purchase a chemical toilet but am not sure which brand is best,
PortaPotti, Fiamma or Visa, can anyone help out?

Troll,

We have a Visa - chose it because of the pump mechanism. PortaPotti have a bellows arrangement which we were a bit sceptical about.

In my opinion, chemical toilets - if emptied responsibly - are a far more environmentally friendly option than a shovel. It's the ultimate in taking out what you take in!

Cheers

Wow lets not get carried away here, to put it bluntly, what could be more natural than a turd.

Yes there are posibilites of fecal coliform contamination if done too close to a water but how much environmental damage is a dump in the bush going to do? Much less than the petro chemical companies making the plastics these toilets are made from not to mention the chemicals that are used within them. Then theres the packaging and the disposable containers the chemicals are supplied in, the energy used to manufacture and ship these things from wherever in asia they are made.

Maybe our PM is right for once, perhaps we are all getting a little too PC.

Good point about the porta-dunny being more environmentally friendly than a shovel Steve, but have you ever tried smacking a snake with a thunder mug - give me a shovel anyday, they are more versatile.

Groove,

You're right, a turd is natural - but if they are so envirnmentally friendly why is so much spent on sewerage infrustructure? In busy areas they are the only environment friendly option available to most of us.

Our Porta-Potti has been great but I'm sure all of them work well.
After camping for years on Fraser Is etc we decided the "hole-in-the-ground" was just not civilized enough. So we bought the Porta-Potti about 6 years ago.
Just about the best investment after the tent.
When you set up camp for a few days or a week the smell, the flys, and with the risk of stomach bugs, the HITG is just not worth it.
Cheers
