Day 90 Coastal Drive

Today we drove south along the coast and visited some of the beaches, and the river mouth to the Margaret River.

Our first stop was at Yalgardup Falls/Kevill Road Waterfall a lesser-known but stunning Margaret River waterfall. The falls are fed by the actual Margaret River, as it flows down from the nearby hills and into a large pool at the base of the waterfall, continuing its way towards the coast. Yalgardup Falls is one of the widest waterfalls in WA rather than tall.




Surfers Point - The World Surf League’s Margaret River Pro is held here every year. Name your favourite Australian or international surfer and we guarantee they have gotten wet at Surfers Point.




Margaret River Mouth Viewpoint - where river meets the sea, this is the mouth of the Margaret River which leads out into the Indian Ocean. It is fascinating to see the water flow out from the river into the Ocean.






Gnarabup Beach is an oasis of calm waters, whilst here we had a coffee at the ever-popular White Elephant Café. The swell of the west coast is hampered by an outer reef, which creates lagoon-like conditions at the beach, sheltered on one side by a spectacular limestone headland. A walking trail over the top gives vivid views of the whole area.





Conto Beach - the view was amazing of wild and windswept waves crashing over the rocks.






Redgate Beach - this coastline is one of the best and Redgate Beach one of the most interesting and prettiest. It is a mix of rocks and sand and clear water.







After viewing the beaches we returned to the White Elephant Café for lunch and then made our way to Gabriel's Chocolate Shop. A small boutique shop that sold half there chocolates in the form of dark chocolate gluten and dairy free, little to say I was in heaven and have a good supply of chocolate coming home with me from all sorts of countries around the world. They source the beans from different countries and then make specialty flavours to go with each different cocoa bean, truly delicious chocolates.
