Edition 182: 28th May 2009

Hi ExplorOz Reader,

Well, it’s that time of year again, and we’re offering a recession busting membership discount for you. Yes, just as in previous years, it’s David’s Birthday Bonanza time and we are offering a massive 42% off new annualpersonal memberships, 42% offmembership renewals, and 42% off the 33 different ExplorOz brandedmerchandise products. David’s Birthday Bonanza is only available for a short time.

For those that haven't noticed yet, the ExplorOz website launched a new layout yesterday resulting in a fresh new feel. We have removed the left hand panel, which has allowed a wider content section, and slightly wider right hand panel to accommodate IAB standards. The menu has changed colour and style and a few tools have been relocated to make finding things easier to find. You can now find the Activities section in the top menu tab, and a new footer contains the majority of the links needed to quickly navigate around the various sections. From all reports, this change has been widely applauded but please alert us to any little "bugs" you encounter as the testing phase is complex and we need to know if we've missed something.

The improvements don't end there however, as this just means we can now rollout some new features that relied on the wider content panel so over the coming months there will be some exciting new things on the site for you to get your teeth into. Other than the big tasks, there's a couple of other tweaks that are currently undergoing improvement such as; making members Blogs easier to search, adding a smart photo-gallery management system, extending detailed trek note information to members only, implementing a members only download console to extract bundles of selected waypoints from across the site, and enabling more upload tools for your trip data.

Plot File Competition

In last fortnight’s edition of the ExplorOz newsletter, we made a callout for plot files, offering free membership for the best one. After a good response, it was very difficult to declare a winner, so two lucky members each receive a free membership renewal. The winners are: Member - Geoffrey R (WA) for the plot file relating to ourBlack Point trek, and Navigator 1 (NSW) for theArkaroola 4WD Loop trek. Thanks to all who entered.
