Well worth the travel along the dirt road to get in. The 1km steep climb to the top of the falls is
well worth the effort, million dollar
views from the pools at the top of the waterfall.
Gunlom Falls, one of
Kakadu National Park’s most iconic attractions, has been closed since 2019 following damage to a sacred site and a lengthy High Court case.
Since then, significant investment and
infrastructure upgrades have been made to ensure visitor safety and to respect the cultural significance of the area for the Traditional Owners.
Although flooding in the Top End caused delays to essential roadworks, the site is now scheduled to reopen on 15 May 2025.
Famous for its cascading waterfall and crystal-clear plunge
pool, Gunlom offers a rewarding short hike to
the summit, where you'll be treated to breathtaking panoramic
views of the park. For a more relaxed visit, enjoy a swim at the lower
pool, complete with a pristine
sandy beach and clear waters—perfect for cooling off and unwinding.
Located in the
Kakadu National Park.
124km south of the Cooinda turnoff.
