Churchill's Head is on a section of the
Old Stuart Highway which gives the driver an opportunity to get off the bitumen. This roadside
rock formation was named by soldiers traveling to
Darwin during World War II. Perhaps it was they who first stuck a piece of piping in
the rock to provide some comic relief to an otherwise long and dull trip.
Good
camping spots along the old highway, would go here again. Do not take car or tow to the communication tower. Steep, rocky and no place to turn around. Just walk.
