The Mia Mia Hotel was first built by Thomas Farrell in 1842 as a wooden building. It was sold in 1851, and by 1860, during the Burke & Wills Expedition, it had three sitting rooms and five bedrooms. Later, the old wooden building was replaced with a stronger bluestone one and operated as a hotel until 1918. Now, the hotel is in
ruins but can still be seen about 200 meters south of where Burke & Wills Track and Heathcote-Kyneton Road meet.
