This is a small gem of a place that is steeped in Victorian Botanical History considering especially that
Castlemaine was undergoing a huge transformation due to the gold rush in the Sandhurst region. It is remarkable with all the social effort was directed towards finding gold, that some community leaders designed and created this small but remarkable botanical gardens. There are massive English Oak specimens that tower over the main walking path around
the gardens, that would be similar in size to those specimens in Kew Gardens UK.
