camping area within Nitmiluk National
Park, approximately 30km east of
Katherine in the Northern Territory. Located on a
sandy beach beside the
Katherine River in the sixth gorge, the

This is a remote overnight paddling destination requiring reasonable fitness, suitable equipment and preparation.Facilities are limited to a
toilet on the southern side of the river. There is no
drinking water, electricity or mobile phone coverage. Campers must carry all food,
drinking water,
camping equipment and supplies, and remove all rubbish.
Fuel stoves are permitted, but wood fires and generators are prohibited. The surrounding gorge offers spectacular scenery, with sheer
sandstone walls, sandy beaches and opportunities for wildlife observation and photography. Swimming is permitted only when the river is officially open and conditions are considered safe. Freshwater crocodiles inhabit
the gorge system, and saltwater crocodiles may enter following wet season flooding.**
Camping fees apply and advance bookings are compulsory.**
Camping is permitted only within designated areas. Canoes can be hired through Nitmiluk Tours, or visitors may bring their own craft, which must be carried approximately 6km overland to the second gorge.
