Byfield State Forest is approximately 24,000 hectares in size, consisting of about 7,000 hectares of exotic pine plantation and 17,000 hectares of native forest. Within the forest are public
recreation areas near the rainforest-edged creeks, hiking
trails, and pine plantations. While the
State Forest has some 2WD access to
trails like the Upper Stony
Creek Circuit, a four-wheel-drive vehicle is often required for the national
