The Nambung National
Park has many highlights all within a couple of hours drive north of
Perth. Some areas are free access, others required an
park entry fee (or pass). Please look up each area separately for specific details. All areas in the National
Park are restricted to no dogs and there are no
camping areas within the Nambung National
Park.
Cervantes is the nearby service centre offering both supplies and accommodation.
Nambung National
Park is most noted for the amazing
limestone formations called
the Pinnacles Desert but other features of interest are the beautiful beaches at
Kangaroo Point and
Hangover Bay, the coastal dune systems and low heathland rich in flowering plants. At the
park’s northern end (near the town of
Cervantes), there is a loop trail and boardwalk at
Lake Thetis where you can see some fascinating thrombolites (rock-like structures similar to
stromatolites built by micro-organisms too small for the human eye to see).
