The
Franklin River incline railway
ruins at the end of the Mt McCall Track. At the end of the Mt McCall track a steep walking trail drops 300m down to the
Franklin River below.
The incline ‘haulage way’ was installed by the then Hydro Electric Commission to support investigation of
the gorge for future dam
infrastructure. Today some commercial rafters use it to enable shorter duration trips but is a difficult climb, allowing 1+ hour return. Access via permit from Parks & Wildlife in
Queenstown.
