Great Northern Hwy & Tanami Rd - WA

The Tanami Road, is undergoing a long-term project to seal its 1,035 km length, with initial sections near Halls Creek already completed. Current Status and Upgrades (WA Section - Halls Creek): Progress: The first 40 km of the 313 km WA section, starting from the Great Northern Highway, is sealed.Future Works: Work on Stage 2 (the next 32 km south of Ruby Plains Homestead) is due for completion by the end of 2026.Long-Term Plan: The full sealing of the WA section is a 10-year project funded by state and federal governments to improve access to remote communities and mining operations.Road Conditions: Despite the upgrades, most of the road remains unsealed dirt, sand, and heavy corrugations, requiring a 4WD.
