Erect annual, herb, 0.07-0.4(-0.7) m high. Fl. pink & yellow, Jun to Nov. Sandy, loam & clay, often stony soils.

The flowers of this shrub or small tree open as a pale cream and later turn red. It can grow in gravel, clay and also sandy soils. The branches are slim and of a reddish brown colour.

Rounded shrub growing to about 1.5m tall. Prickles up to 1cm long on stems only. All parts covered with short dense hairs that can be silvery or rusty colour.
You could easily mistake this common little orchid for grass. A small terrestrial orchid with 10s of tiny flowers crowded along a flowering spike that can grow up tp to 30cm tall.
