Where to go in CAPE YORK for 3 weeks

We have 3 weeks starting from Cairns, our trip starts from Melb. 10 days before (leaving Cairns start of July)

Wanting to take many of the rough tracks (not towing trailers)

What are the must see?
How long to stay at each area/camping area?
How long does it take to travel from area to area?
Is there such a thing as free camps?
Where do you go if the paid camp sites are full?

booking camp sites, & the problems, changing dates when something goes wrong.

Hi John, we took 3 weeks Cooktown up Battlecamp road to the PDR to the tip and back to Cairns via Lakefield NP. You must visit Eliot,Twin, and Fruitbat Falls with the former having a good campsite. From here you can have a play on the 5 nearest OTT creek crossings. e.g Telegraph Track - Mistake Creek. You can bushcamp just about anywhere.
See Weipa and stock up on supplies. There's history at Moreton Telegraph Station, camping on the Archer River etc.... Enjoy.... W
PS Don't forget the windy Chili Beach and Captain Billy Landing
