I am using a `home brand ` nappy san in the Thetford in my caravan. This does quieten down the `long drop` smell that would be present if I didn't use it , but there is still a odour that is present , better than the long drop smell, but not all that acceptable. Does anyone know of a deodorant that can be added without upsetting the nappy san properties? As the home brand nappy san is cheap, $4.00 a container, I require something that is cheap as well, prepared to pay something similar for a product that lasts approx. the same time as the nappy san, any ideas anyone?
Regards G.T.

Why not try a spray of nilodor as and when required.
We use it at home and have a bottle in the camper when out and about.

Nilodor eliminates odor, not just disguises it.

Best action is to empty more frequently if odour occurs. You can add the powder every day if you feel the need to. We found a musty odour when we started out using BioMagic, but changing to the sodium percarbonate based nappy soaker powders stopped it. We usually empty after three days.

Those "Nappy San"products will only work whilst there is available Oxygen in the mix. Organic matter uses it up very quickly. So I suspect that it would need to be added fairly regularly to achieve a good result.

We also use Nappysan but don't have any issue with smell. Are you using the correct mixture and how long are you leaving it before emptying?

I am using two capfuls after empting, and empty after two days, usually full by then. Odour is not diabolical, it is different and better than no nappy san, but could be improved on. May be I should empty daily, I am getting lazy since retiring! Regards G.T.

If you Crap as often as you Post - no wonder you fill it in 2 days...

I just put 2 capfulls in after emptying then 1 capful for each #2.

It usually gets emptied about 4 days but can go a week if used lightly. By then it is getting a bit whiffy so it is emptied whether it needs it or not.

Cheers Neil

we don't muck around with that, we just use the chemical.
It does the job we pay for :-)

I would suggest that if it's full in two days, that you empty it daily.

You should not have any unpleasant odour if using Nappy Soaker correctly. If you check on Caravaners Forum you will see more threads on this topic than you thought possible!
Firstly you need to buy a product with the highest percentage of sodium percarbonate - the active ingredient. Most No Brand products are good but read the label.
Then you need to always thoroughly rinse the cassette after emptying it.
You must pour one litre of warm water into the clean cassette with two good capfuls of soaker to activate the product before using the toilet.
You need to empty cassette every fourth day.
You can add a little extra nappy soaker each day but this should not be really necessary.
A very little eucalyptus oil will not hurt but do not add any detergents etc.
The chemicals sold at a vast profit by the toilet manufacturers make the van smell like an old style public toilet and are an environmental disaster. Sodium percarbonate will not harm a septic system and can also be safely disposed of in an old drop toilet or a hole dug well away from creeks and camp grounds.
Good luck! Lynne

Spot on Lynne. Most of the smell if there is any, will come from the bowl and the nooks and crannies in it so it is important to give it a good clean, as well as the area between the two tanks at every empty out. The nappisan will only look after the bottom tank. Try putting one capful in the top tank when filling it.

Full every two days GT. Wow :-)))

Good luck with it.
