G'day,
we're planning a tour to Outback-South Australia next year and wonder if there is
camping possible at
Hamilton Station. There is no information available and all links to their Homepage (if it still exists) are broken.
Can anybody give us some more Details? That would be great. Thank you.

We went past there in September this year and the
camping signs were still on display.. We never went in to see what was on offer, but from the road it looked ok.

Hi Joerg M. We drove past in Oct from Dalhousie to
Oodnadatta. On their signboard it has you can
camp in their
camp area but not anywhere else on the property. Which is ok by me considering the amount of
toilet paper and rubbish that I saw blowing around some
places. We hope you have a very enjoyable trip.

G'Day Joerg,
Earlier this year I was up that way and
camping was still permitted......HOWEVER.... as mentioned, the area looks a bit dumpy.
We elected to stay up the road at Eringa. Beautiful
waterhole, a few
old ruins to explore and the place has historical value being Sir Sidney Kidman's first property.
Check it out .... in my opinion, far better than
Hamilton.
Fab.

+1 on Eringa as a far nicer place to
camp.
Dalhousie Springs, Mt. Dare & Lambert's Centre are other considerations in the area.

Hi Fab72,
Didn't stay at Eringa this year first year for a long time but had friends that stayed there in September and they said it was dry, how was it when you were there?
All the best for the new year.
Cheers,
Graham

G'Day Graham,
We stayed at Eringa in March/April of this year. Although I have no previous experience to gauge it off, the
water levels looked lower than the Google Images of the place that I viewed on-line prior to our trip.
There was still what I would consider plenty of
water considering it was at the end of summer. No mozzies to complain about either unlike Dalhousie which looked and felt like I was standing on the main runway at Heathrow.

Hi Fab,
That's amazing! The pic below is from a similar spot on the bank at Eringa as your photo, at the start of the same summer.
The
water level certainly dropped a lot over summer!
Cheers,
Kevin :=)

That sure is amazing, I've mostly seen it like Kevin's photo. By all reports from people in that area they have been having a drought for couple of years and it dried up.
Agree with you about the mossies at Dalhousie.
Cheers
Graham

Hi,
Joerg,
You could try their Facebook page:
Hamilton Station Facebook page
Email is listed as hamiltonstn@bigpond.com.
I drove past last year and as mentioned above it looked like it was open for
camping. I'm sure I met some people who had camped there, but I can't remember what they said about it.

We stayed in the
camping ground at
Hamilton Station last May. We were the only campers and our grandsons loved their
camp fire and the huge outback skies. The
camping area was very dusty and there could be difficulties if there was rain and the area turned to mud. There is one new pit
toilet,
toilet paper was delivered by the wife/partner of the
homestead, fire grates and a covered eating area but the flies were terrible. The lady was very friendly and told us a lot about the station. We thought that the cost of $10 for a family was very fair. We would happily stay again.
