Hello All. New member to the site.
I have looked at other threads about Innaminka to
Birdsville on the Walkers Crossing/
Cordillo Downs tracks. We are taking a Range Rover (AT's) and a Troopy (Muddys) to the races and would like to know from seasoned members the best route to take. We have two days up our sleeves but dont really want to cut up the tyres if possible. Is
Cordillo downs as bad as I read regarding the gibbers?
Thanks in advance.

We did
Cordillo Downs Rd again last year towing a Vista Crossover & it really wasn't bad at all.
Not too sure though if you should be going to the Outback if you are worried about chipping tyres!

Definitely go
Walkers Crossing. Take two days and
camp out overnight. Great track with no traffic at all. There is a bit of gibber getting up towards the
Birdsville track.

Did the PAR through Walker's Crossing 12 months ago not long after rain. Only rocky bit was just off the
Birdsville track, otherwise mostly sandy. Good drive and quite interesting as the land changes. We had sand flags and used the UHF to help prevent any head ons. I endorse the suggestion to take it easy and spend a night on the way. A long way from nowhere and the night sky is memorable.

You haven't said where you are coming from, but if coming from the east to
Innamincka, then the
Walkers Crossing track, and up the
Birdsville Track you WILL knock your tyres around.
We were in
Innamincka last year and the road/track from the QLD border was terrible.

I agree with Baz, that road from the Qld border to
Innamincka has some very bad gibbers!

If you choose the
Walkers Crossing route, you can reach
Birdsville easily in a days travel.
It is the Cordillo Downs route that may require a stopover along the way.
The
Walkers Crossing route is the choice for locals commuting between
Innamincka and
Birdsville.

I found the
Cordillo Downs road was slow going with lots of creek crossings and took two days. The
Walkers Crossing track was an easy days drive. Most people seem to
camp at the crossing. I would go the
Walkers Crossing way if it was me and I wouldn't bother camping because it is such a short trip. Spend an extra day in
Innamincka and catch a fish. Stars are pretty good there as
well.
Regards,
Bob

Walkers Crossing was still closed,
Cordillo downs was a walk in the park. 6 hours
Innamincka to
Birdsville, but start of the season and roads in great condition. Hope you have a great trip!
Cheers,
Neil

Just drove BV to Inna via Walkers Fri 25th after dawn service there.
Easy as, tyres at 32 for the BV tk, then went 27 on
Walkers Crossing Tk soon after turning onto it.
Did the
Dig Tree Circuit before camping Cullyamulla, setting up early evening in the just darkness, but worth it.
We took a couple of detours otherwise we would have been able to set up by dusk.
Walkers Crossing camping ?
From what we saw it was just doable as a lunch stop (shade of the tress by the new
bridge), but then we didn't go looking around for tracks into the creeklines for anything for camping.

We just did
Birdsville to
Innamincka in a day, road conditions as per usual, corrugated but no better or worse than many outback roads...
Drive to conditions and you'll be fine...
