We are planning to leave
Adelaide on the 14th of April.
Any suggestions on camping grounds in the
Flinders Ranges and
Gammon Ranges during the April School holidays. Either caravan parks or
bush camping. Are they crowded in the school holidays and is their a need to book. We are then going up the
Strzelecki track to
Innamincka then
Birdsville via either
Walkers crossing or
Cordillo Downs and then down the
Birdsville track to Lake Eyre. Then back to
Adelaide.

Walkers Crossing is closed due to flooding and may not be open by the end of April.
Check this website...go to On the Road button and then click on Road Conditions.
School Holidays and campgrounds will be packed! Try
Warraweena Private Conservation Park. Friendly people, good campsites and very good 4x4 tracks. You may email Stony Steiner at
warraweena@internode.on.net or visit their website www.
warraweena.com
There are some
bush camping areas outside Arkaroola and the
Gammon Ranges NP or good bush
camp sites within the NP. They probably won't take bookings.
Wilpena and Arkaroola are Bush 'Resorts' and charge accordingly for their
services.
Have fun.

Sara and Mark try brendon reynolds at
willow springs station 86480016 for good
bush camping with bush
toilets and showers at
homestead, about $10? Also allow a full day and do the sky trek for great veiws of the flinders and good medium 4wding about $40? I believe that the causeway to
cordillo downs track will still be closed and you may have to cross over the
burke and wills bridge and travel via arrabury stn. You will need to
check closer to departure time.

Walkers Crossing and
Cordillo Downs will both be out still at this time. The causeway at
Innamincka will mean you'll have to come up to
Birdsville via Arrabury - but you could then cut across to the
Cordillo Downs road. The only way to see the water in Lake Eyre is to take a flight over it - from either
Marree or
William Creek, you will not be able to reach the water by road.

there are few good camping spots within the Gammons:
Grindells hut area will be popular with campers as it has readily available water -rain water for drinking and
bore for washing.
But further afield there are a few good spots...(just drive 4wd)around the track and stop much anywere you want.
Around the backside the track is only one way. If you want to go all the way round its anticlockwise.

Sara & Mark,
There are some good suggestions there and the drive around the back of MMt. Searle and the Gammons is beautifull. I was speaking to Doug Sprigg l(from Arkaroola) last week and he said usually
Easter is quiet up there. If you want showers and a bed then thats a good place but bushcamping is great around grindles hut and there is a
toilet there.
