In the past i am sure i have looked up the price of fuel at various places eg at Giggalong.
If this information is still on the site can someone point me in the right direction.
Thanks

Navigator 1 - There are only two sites that I know of that record fuel prices. One is Motormouth which covers fuel prices in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, Canberra, Darwin and Perth only.

MotorMouth apparently relies on members of the public to phone in prices for Eastern States sites, and does not appear to be very accurate, as fuel retailers in these States change their prices at a whim at any time.

The other site is FuelWatch, which is a W.A. Govt site that makes fuel retailers post their next-day prices on a daily basis, starting from 6:00AM on that next day.
FuelWatch results are usually available by about 2:30PM - 3:00PM each day, for the following day. You can subscribe to FuelWatch and get daily prices emailed to you.
The fuel prices posted are required to be adhered to, under threat of penalties, for the next 24hr period.

Remote areas of W.A., and the area East of Norseman to the W.A. border, are not covered by FuelWatch or any other price-watching site - and fuel prices in these areas and along this section of the Eyre Hwy are difficult to find, unless someone has travelled through recently, and posts the prices they found.

Cheers, Ron.

Rob,

About the time we are ready to head off to the other side of the country, fuel prices skyrocket! Seems to happen every time.
I don't think you will find anything on EO, apart from individual posts from people who have recently traveled along one of the routes, so maybe you will have to ask on here.

regards,
Heather

There used to be an area on Exploroz that included fuel prices, but it disappeared some time ago. I guess it became to hard to maintain

Very interested in fuel (diesel prices) out there. In 6 weeks going on a long trip towing a camper with a D4D - NSW-SA-NT-QLD-NSW.

Currently paying about $1.26-$130 for diesel in Canberra due the low fuel prices.

What prices can I expect at Broken Hill - Peterborough - Oodnadatta - Alice Springs - Tennant Creek - Mount Isa - through to Rocky?

Just indicative would be fine.

Haven't been to Tennant Creek/3 Ways for almost 6 years, Terry, but thought fuel cost back then was pretty reasonable, compared similar places.

Barkly Homestead was around $2/L when I was up there, about 5 weeks ago.Camooweal is exxy, about $1.95 or so, but once in the Isa, price plummets, and should be 1.25-1,35 there.

Cloncurry always seems exxy to me, and usually about 10c/L dearer than the Isa. There is an IOR depot out on way to airport(opp Toll/NQX depot), that had diesel about 1.28/L, when I came back through, returning from the Barkly. They now have a tank fitted with card system, for general public.

Diesel cost in Winton is, at this minute, $1.34.9. Think Longreach is nearly the same, or a cent or more dearer.Barcaldine is good price at Choice servo, at what used to be the BP Roadhouse.

Filled up at Emerald after Christmas.......think it was cheaper than Winton, but can't remember by how much.Caltex roadhouse at Dingo is good spot to fuel up, price is good, and you can get a good feed there too.

So I'd be filling up at T/Creek, Isa, Winton, Barcaldine & Dingo. Not sure what prices will be like in 6 weeks time?

Thanks Bob. That is very informative.

I have budgeted on an average of $1.75 given the low prices being experienced. I think this might work given I have a range of over 1,000kms in the Prado.

Assumed you had a Prado when you mentioned a D4D. :-)

Apologies for the rather vague guestimations for some areas. Quite often I'll need to top up and the price doesn't really matter.........if you want to get home.

You should be right to Isa, Winton and maybe Emerald or Dingo, no worries.

Safe trip, hope you enjoy it,

Bob

Just checked out Motormouth, they don't seem to do too many regional towns in Victoria. Very few towns in their list are Country Towns outside the Metro Area. The whole of Gippsland only managed 1-2 sites.

Hi Rodney
Motormouth have all the large towns from naw via highway 1 to Melb
Bairnesdale
Sale
Tralralgon
Morwell
Moe
Waragul is bypassed now with the freeway
Lakes Entrance really only has 1 strip of shops
I am suprised Kooweerup is mentioned as it is further down in gippsland Leongatha is a decent size but all others are really only villages
The prices are an average of the town so sometimes you need to check which station is cheaper

Thanks Colin you have made me look again, a search under Prices by Postcode doesn't do it for the Gippsland area but Country Price tab does. Thanks again.

hi Rodney
I had never even tried the postcode option
That explained why you did not see the towns

Here's a hooray for the ACCC - but I don't know if anything worthwhile will come out of the investigation.

The ACCC is going to conduct an investigation in why Darwin fuel prices are regularly around 20c higher than they reasonably should be.

I don't think you need to be Einstein to figure out why that is - the important thing is, the ACCC should have the ability to tap phone calls and uncover what is almost certainly collusive pricing in operation - and to impose fines that hurt the oil companies in a manner that stops them from trying it on, any time again in the future.

ACCC to investigate high Darwin fuel prices

Cheers, Ron.

Not long ago it used to be 30+ cents dearer but after some media, public plus limited Government agitation it came down to more reasonable levels. Most here don't think that they did it out of the goodness of their own hearts, just as a temporary public relations exercise to try and avoid this ACCC scrutiny. It's long been a farce that Katherine was cheaper even though they get their fuel from Darwin. If nothing comes from the ACCC then the action might as well have to come from public direct action against individual brands to force the issue. A few ideas have been suggested.

there is a website called "COMPARE THE MARKET" which will give you prices in QLD and NSW. The price of diesel at the moment in MT ISA is $1.39
