Just wondering if anyone has had recent experience of either the
Mataranka Homestead or the
Mataranka Cabins and which is the better spot for camping as
well as experiencing the thermal pools.

Hi Graham
We chose
Mataranka Cabins and Camping. Lovely location, with campers choosing informal sites amongst shady tropical trees and palms on the edge of wetlands. Mostly level sites, which will accommodate large rigs and drive through. Taps and some power poles scattered throughout main area; long power cords may be needed. Lightly grassed. Unpowered camping beside Little
Roper River well away from main
camp ground, where campfires are permitted but no generators. Booking needed or arrive early in the morning as
camp only takes 42 rigs and on most days is usually 'full' by early afternoon. On line booking available.
A short walk to
Bitter Springs - a fast flowing warm stream. You can sit in the warm water on rocks and the, float downstream and walk back (take footwear) or strong swimmers can swim back against the current.
