Has anyone stayed at either of these
showgrounds recently? Alternatively, does anyone know of any free camps nearby to either place?

Greetings
The Gateway Village Caravan Park in
Grafton is the best park we have ever stayed at - exceptionally tidy, good staff - and only $22 a night - highly recommended.

Stayed at both
places.
Grafton Gateway is awesome at $22 a night.
Bellingen Showgrounds are also very good. Can get very wet underfoot with rain.

Cangai Bridge west of
Grafton has possibilities.
Burdett park near Belligen is also a free site

Burdett Park is not a
free Camping site.
According to a search on the
Bellingen Shire Council site for
Free Camping there is no sites listed.
A search of Burdett Park does not return as a camping site either.

Bellingen Shire Council also now has two Rangers.

Don't bother with the
showgrounds at
Grafton, run down with dirty ablutions and $23 p/n for a solo traveller.
I sent the showground trust an eMail seven weeks ago without acknowledgement. I've been told the race track at
Grafton is good alternative.
Kendall showground is a beaut stopover, clean and inexpensive.

Thank you to those of you who replied to my post.
We are happily ensconced at the Gateway Village for two nights and as a very infrequent user of caravan parks (I prefer to
free camp), I must say that this is one of the cleanest, quietest, cheapest and best quality caravan parks that I have seen. The $22 per night charged for powered sites is currently their standard year round rate but they are undergoing a change of ownership so who knows what might happen to this price in the future.
I checked out the greyhound club caravan park (a greyhound meeting is on tonight with lots of dogs and trailers around) and the showground (very old run down facilities with two very small shower cubicles and
toilet paper all over the floor in the
toilets) was quite decrepit. Neither of these two
places come close to matching this park.
