Evening all

I'm sitting in a caravan park at Barcaldine waiting for the road to Muttaburra to dry out so I can go out safely. Going out there to do "drought" relief volunteer work with BlazeAid but what with the recent rains in the area it is more likely that BlazeAid will be doing flood damage fencing. More rain expected this weekend so I want to at least get to the place so perhaps we can do some stuff around the village to fill in time until the roads out to properties dry enough.

Cheers

If you go via Winton it's bitumen all the way.

Winton to Muttaburra bitumem all the way ?? what planet do live on ?? The only road to Muttaburra that is sealed all the way is Barky to Aramac to Muttaburra / 65 km then 86 km …. Longreach to Muttaburra via the "Crossmore" rd is 125 km dirt all the way currently 'closed' to all vehicles due to the rain , The "Cramsie Rd ' to Muttaburra from Longreach is 125km of which 26 km is still dirt divided into 2 sections , road is still closed due to the blacksoil bypass at the roadworks , …..
If from Winton one would have to turn down the Morrella Rd which is 60 km of dirt currently impassable , From Huenden 200km of dirt , from Prairie the same , From Torrens creek 30 km dirt then 200km asphalt but then 50km of the Bowen Downs Rd all dirt currently 4x4 ONLY ,, Rain is predicted for Friday and Showers Saturday , the way the ground in-between Barky an Mutta is saturated the creeks will be up again …..

Yes the road Barky - Muttaburra is bitumen all the way but lot is still single lane. Had to drop wheels off a few times coming out to let bigger vehicles past and could feel the campers wheel digging into that lovely black soil. All good and arrived here safe and sound. And yes more rain forecast Friday and Saturday. BOM site says 20- 40mm
, some locals are saying 150mm + so might be here for the duration. Oh well I planned on staying with BlazeAid for a month anyway

I thought you were coming to Winton, John?

Is the road via Aramac still closed? It's all bitumen that way, but maybe there's water over the road? Just checked 131940 and it's open with caution, with water over road between Barcaldine-Aramac and Aramac-Muttaburra.

Should be all good before next lot of rain arrives, about Sunday, I heard, John.

Morning Bob

Was going to Winton but as I have never been to Muttaburra and it's a bit closer thought I'd go there instead.

Road is open but wet boggy shoulders on a 1 lane road could be a bit iffy if I have to drop wheels off for other vehicles.

I'll go out about lunchtime today and take it nice and easy.

Cheers

Hi There,
I did the Barcaldine, Aramac, Muttaburra, Hughenden trip on the way to Cape York 15 years ago and I thought that the dirt did'nt start until north of Muttaburra?? But of course it was a long time ago!
When you are there make a point of checking out the Muttaburrasawus Langdony!

Still the same , from the 11mile north dirt all the way , had a couple stuck for 2 nights as the Flinders shire council had not closed the Rd at their end last week , they made it to Mutta on last Friday after leaving Huenden on the Wednesday .
