There's an increasing number of offerings now so I ditched my Spot Messenger.

I got sick of the poor service and the steep subscription.

The replacement is Zoleo which does 2-way comms via Iridium. The box has SOS and OK buttons and paired with your phone you can send emails or texts.

Its claim to fame is that these will be sent by whatever network is available: satellite, phone or wifi. You are assigned a mobile number and can choose an email address.

After the first 3 months you can start and stop your subscription as needed.

There's Australian support and they seem to be on the ball.

I wish members would use the inbuilt Link function to provide links that insert properly.

Best Satellite Messengers of 2020

The tab is there to provide reliable links. Please use it and don't be lazy.

Gee PeterD don't you think you're a bit harsh in what you said "The tab is there to provide reliable links. Please use it and don't be lazy."

Anyway who put you in charge?

URL decoding has been in the ExplorOz Forum for at least the last 10 years (ie. allowing you to simply paste a link) however not all links decode successfully as some links contain spaces instead of the correct syntax that can be decoded, and there's plenty of other anomalies.

If you use the PREVIEW button before SUMBIT you can check if its worked or not. If not, use use the LINK button as Peter has highlighted.

Sigmund, at $32 month basic, $384 a year, no thanks. Doesn't seem to be a tracking/mapping function like SPOT. I don't have to be in touch 24/7, will keep my SPOT for now.

People have varying needs which is why I put up the review link.

There's now enough product differentiation to offer choice.

Auto tracking's of no interest to me. It might be if it sent a signal when I stopped. Manual tracking via the OK msg is enough for me.

If you looked at my email and the pricing, you'll see there's no need to spend $384 a year if you don't need it (and I never need it). With Spot however you pay AUD 230 a year full stop (or go into bargaining mode at renewal time). And you don't get incoming emails or texts.

So the Zoleo and the Inreach sit half way between a Messenger and a satphone. They don't try to be the same product.

One poster denigrates me as lazy for a simple mistake, when 99% of the internet accepts a simple pasted URL. That's the norm.

Another misrepresents my choice to defend his own, comparing oranges with apples.

This is the last time I contribute anything to this forum.

Sigmund, how have I "misrepresented your choice to defend my own"? I looked at the web site, read what the information said and replied that it wasn't for me as it had no tracking function and was expensive. I think it is you that is comparing apples and oranges..........I look forward to not hearing from you if you are that thin skinned that you take my reply as a misrepresentation. Good day.

Don't give up Sigmund. Unfortunately some world leaders have much to answer for when it comes to their influence in the area of diplomacy.
I hope one day to travel remotely again and I will be seeking an upgrade to my very old sat phone. Your information was of interest to me. I may not go that route ultimately but it is logical to only pay for periods of use rather than the full year in the subscription. Anyway it presents as a serious alternative. Please keep us appraised of the service as you continue to use it.

I love my Spot Gen3 and the device is reliable, but the cost was ridiculous and I changed over to a Flex Plan.
Cost was AU$30.64 for the Activation Fee then a monthly fee of AU$26.03 plus AU$11.14 for the Extreme Tracking option. (Gives 2.5 min tracking intervals)
So for AU$37.17 per month, with the ability to suspend the service (at end of current monthly period) I think I have a reasonably cost effective solution.

No need to change to another device at $300+, plus monthly fees.
All information available on the findmespot.com website.
