I soon have to do a trip Sunny coast, Dubbo,
Mildura,
Adelaide,
Broken Hill,
Canberra then
home via the coast with a stop or two.
It is getting increasingly hard to find decent truck stops on main routs these days with fast food service centres becoming the norm.
If anyone knows of any good old fassioned truck stops where they serve good value meals and refill your coffee flasks. Along or just off the above rout I would love to hear about them.
Two of the best ones I know of are the one on the south side of Camperdown in Vic and just recently stumbled onto one in Rocklea in
Brisbane, good old fassioned service.

Hi qldcamper,
The
Shell Roadhouse just on the northern edge of Gilgandra is still an “old fashioned” truck stop. It provides all the
services that you have requested including hot showers. The food is good, the coffee pretty good, and the staff are friendly. We regularly stop there on our way North or South.
Macca.

Good tip, thanks Keith.
Good coffee is worth throwing out the anchor for. Best I have found so far is the
bakery in Coober Peady, worth the drive in off the highway for, we cant drive past without going in.

Thanks guys,
So far thats a late afternoon meal stop on day one a little way before Dubbo and breaky after we leave Dubbo a couple of days later.
Looking good so far.
Its a bit different to looking for good outback pubs (which are a lot easier to find) as we normally do when we
camp near by, but this trip due to the rain, the camper is staying at
home.

Another good truck stop is the
Ampol on the southern edge of Nerrandera if you go that far south on the Newell Highway. Not as good as the
Shell at Gilgandra, but still pretty good.

Thats very much on the cards now, overnighting in
Echuca and Narrandera is a good lunch break distance about half way.
Never driven this area before.
Appriciate your suggestions.

There is also a no cost
camping area in Narrandera just before the river heading south on the left hand side if you choose to stop overnight in Narrandera. It is called Brewery Flat Reserve. We have used it often.

Well popped in this morning, freezing cold.
I agree it is definatly not as good as the Gilgandra one, infact it isnt as good as any I have ever been to, pretty poor in all respects. Wont go into details, they might have just been having a bad day.
You did warn me.

Hi Gronk,
The issue is the link was long. Short links usually paste in and work ok on EO, but long links often don't.
Here's your link as you posted it:
https://www.bp.com/en_au/australia/home/products-services/service-stations/truck-stops.html
You can see that only part of it is underlined. That indicates the link is kaput. Yes, it's the way this site processes big links. It's usually much better to use the Link button.
Cheers

Why don't posters learn to use the Line insertion tab? Just pasting a large URL into a message frequently fails, just like Gronks one did. Another failure with the lazy posters is they do not preview their post before they use the Submit tab to submit their post. Please use the Preview tab and
check the quality of your submission before you finally submit it, we may be able to fathom your messages if you switch your spell checker on as
well.

OK, I’ll bite…..where is the line insertion tab?
How does the preview tab
check the quality of your post ? I just used it and the post looks exactly like it does here ??
So, what is the criteria for a long URL ? How many letters is too long ?

I don't know anything about a "line insertion tab" but I do know that this
forum has a Link button that does the job.
Gronk,
Followup 4 suggests it might be 14 characters.
Well, it was on Friday, Jul 01, 2022 at 07:15.
I've seen longer ones work and shorter that didn't.
As to why, you'll have to ask the author of this site's software.
Cheers

"where is the line insertion tab?"
Sorry that typo, it should have been "Link" tab. Frank P has started a new thread
Using the LINK button to include a web address (URL) in a post. If you go to that thread there is a good explanation of how to correctly insert a link.
"How does the preview tab
check the quality of your post ?"
If you had used the "Preview tab" instead of the Submit tab and posted your message without previewing it, you would have noticed the broken link. That is why it is there, to see how your message appears before you posted it. Even if you had not previewed your message before posting it, you should have been able to read it after you posted it. You then should have used the "Edit" tab and corrected your link.
The preview function is particularly handy with long posts. You often cannot see what you typed in its entirety, when you do use it you will find that the quality of your postings will improve.

There's a good one just north of Willow Tree at the
Quirindi turnoff if you're going that way. Open 24 hrs. Breakfast is legendary.
