Even if the Walkers Crossing Track was open, you can not get to it because the Birdsville Track is closed.

Hi Trawe,

I can see that Peter has answered your question already with the links to the websites. However, for your info for future reference, every State and Territory has an Outback Roads Website. Simply “Google” the Outback Roads website of the State or Territory that you want to know about, (Pete has attached the link to the S.A. Outback Roads website), and it will link you to the information.

Walkers would be six foot plus under water and the Birdsville track is closed so you have no access to the west side anyway

Thanks to all who replied, good info. Fortunately won't be going that way until mid next month so maybe? More rain heading that way so I am not hopeful.

Pretty sure Walkers Crossing has been closed for several years. Perhaps StephenL could confirm this if he sees this.

The road closed sign on the birdsville track has been there for a few years .
But hasnt been actually closed all that time.
It has some low country so wont open until well after the birdsville track

Hi Gordon

All the country in that area has been severely damaged or still under water and in a nut shell there is no access from either the Birdsville Track or west from Innamincka and is going to be this way for many months to come as there is still a section of northern Birdsville Track that is covered with water for over 20 kilometres.

They have only just this week starting to get the track repaired north of Innamincka, the causeway has been checked out by the engineers on open and extensive track damage for around 5 kilometres with some wash always up to 2 metres deep.

The only safe way into Innamincka is still from the east via Epsilom Station, with the Burke and Wills Bridge out of action for at least 12 months.

Just amazes me that in todays modern times people do not do simple research without checking some very reliable and accurate sites

Well there you go. Last time I was up that way the ranger told me the access to the crossing was all washed away, no hope of getting thru & nobody wanted to fix it. Several years ago now but we had to go down to Lyndhurst & back up the Birdsville track & in thru Warburton crossing to the Simpson. We left to avoid rain but caught it down the Stezelecki. Always bloody wet up there, We’ve had a few go to get into Coongie lakes but always get stymied buy the rain. See Innaminka cut off again now.
Good day Stephen L miss them talks on the way to the bank mate

Trawe. Asking question is the only way to learn. A few people on here have forgotten that they to had to ask questions when they started out
