my brother bought one, took it off road once, they've never been back. Not a bad vehicle on road though.

Unfortunately for you.

Most women are interested in 'newer' and colour, not make. So that leaves you a broad line of attack.

Cruiser sliver is very trendy and there is an optional beige interior trim with one paint colour. Could go well with many of her outfits.

Pre-First step - bunch of flowers and a card (delivered preferably to her workplace if she is working or if at home have it delivered when her friends are likely toi visit. When questionned, say humbly that it was for not particular purpose, other than the fact that you had been thinking about her at work and had felt the need to express it. (this isn't about apology, it is about expressing appreciation).

First step - ask her to tell you what colours they are. Because she would have a nme for each.

Second step - express interest in her choosing the colours because you 'are unsure what would look best in the driveway'.

Third step - express concern about her safety, especially in unreliable smaller cars that could get caught in the wilds (this is solely to ensure no slippage in resolve after her mates raise non-Cruiser colours for discussion). You wouldn't want to be in the Jardine in a small fourby when a big salty could get in the window!!

Fourth step - show interest making savings through buying at the next Toyota runout sale - invite her to help you keep a lookout and check prices.

Fifth step - suggest to spouse that she invite a few of her friends over for cheesecake and bubbly when the new Cruiser comes 'home'. Mention appreciation for her role. get adequate coldies salted away for the drink to celebrate purchase of new or near new Cruiser.

Note, resist urge to tell your mates about your 'clever' campaign. Because the idiots let on to their spouses who feel 'obliged' to report at the very worst time.

I still haven't got the bit right about listening sensitively when I get home from a hard day.............have been able to stretch to 5 mins SSL (simulated sensitive listening), but after that I'm a gonner ...............:>(

Chappo, I have only just got home from a driver training weekend and read your post, shame about the wife having to go like that. The driver training weekend was for all wheel drive vehicles, we had a couple of Xtrail, Foresters, an Outback Rav4, Volvo X Country, Tribute and a BMW X5. Now all these vehicles fall into the same class of 4WD. What you have to do is to convince the wife that if you have to trade the Cruiser in than a BMW X5 is the way to go. Once she finds out the price of the BMW I would say that the Cruiser will be yours for a lot longer
The BMW was the only vehicle that came close to doing what the big 4WD vehicles do with its traction control and hill decent buttons. This BMW was also diesel and went very well.

Chappo,

Here's an on-road disaster story. Look at post 5007, click here.

Tells of a Tribute that copped about $30k worth of damage after it was swamped by a passing truck during a Sydney downpour.

If your wife still wants one after reading that, then sorry mate, you ain't going to win.

Hi Chappo
My wife has a Feb 04 Tribute. Took it through Yengo NP, although an easy track, with the club and went everywhere the big trucks went and never held anybody up.
Obviously won't go where my 80 Series will go but most 4WD ing is common sense. Can't get a lift kit for them but don't really need one.
Great on road car and good soft road 4wd.
Got to be carefull as they have a second gear lock in the auto transmission so if you pull it down to second on the dirt it stays in second. Either drive it manually or leave it in drive.
Cheers for now

Thanks 80cruiser. Have you ever had it in soft sand? This is where we mostly drive. We occasionally tow a camper trailer on the beach as well. Will it do it?

No not in sand.
Only did the one trip as its not the missus cup of tea.
So we take the cruiser everywhere and she uses the Mazda for work.
Has now done 17000k's and no dramas at all. She loves it and thats all that matters.
Cheers
Scott
