My wife and I are keen to get started on this new life. We hope that our questions to one and all of you are not mundane, and also neither of us are up with all the technical terms that are so frequently used throughout these forums. We would like our answers to be as plain as you believe they can be. We have travelled this great land from the point of capital city to capital city, and now is the time to spend leisurely hours with other fellow travellers enjoying this magnificent land. We have a lot of questions for you all, but at the moment this message is just an introduction from us to you.

Peter and Dawn,

Welcome, you will find a lot of helpful people on this forum.

Another great feature is the search function. if you want to find out about something that has been previously discussed, type your topic into search and look at both current posts and archives. there is a wealth of information.

Cheers,

Jim.

Welcome to the best place to ask questions this side of the Black Stump. Don;t worry about our answers being simple, some of us have to get our kids to help with the typing. If you dont understand something then say so and we'll get one of the kids to help out.

Hope you enjoy your sojourn in the glory phase of your lives.

A big welcome from Birdsville, Peter & Dawn. If you're ever passing be sure to drop in for a cuppa.

You'll find most of the information you need for travelling Oz on this site - it's worth it just to have a wander around to familiarise yourself with the various sections. If it's not listed, somebody on the forum will surely help.

Good luck, happy tavelling and a fab festive season,

Karsten

Thankyou for your prompt reply. Now come the questions. How do we put a photo of us and our car on our profile? We do have a digital camera and I can put the photos on my computer. Talking of computers, how do we retrieve emails and post trek notes while we are on the road? We have been reading some of the messages mainly in relation to communications, and we use to have a CB radio back in the 80's. Unfortunately the only people using the sets back then were the teenagers, enough said about that era. Do we have to take a ham radio course to be able to use the HF, Satellite phones and all the other mod comms? We think this should be enough for now.
Wishing all of you a Merry Chrismas and a Happy New Year.

Hi Peter,

to post a pic of your rig or yourselves, go to your home page, you'll see on the right a series of buttons "My Profile, My Rig" etc, if you click on the "my rig button" you can upload some pics....they need to be a certain size so you may have reduce your image depending on the size of the pics you're uploading. For the pic to be displayed you'll need a bi-line or signature you can do this in the "my profile" section, this is where you can fill in what your rig consists of, so when anyone clicks on your pic they'll see the list..

and don't forget to check out the "members" section and see what gatherings or events have been organised that you may be able to come along to.

cheers, enjoy

Lyn [Mrs. Al]

Another biased Tojo owner Johnno, who loves expensive service & spares LOL!
Peter & Dawn,
You havent stated your ambitions whether they are 4wd or just off the beaten track a bit?
Unless in mountainous terrain or real off road U dont need 4wd, maybe just high clearance 2wd but thats hard to find nowadays. Some take everything but the , or including the kitchen sink and struggle up hills or off road. Start off light & simple
and read the posts on this site. Not all will agree 100% with everyone elses ways but
maybe keep it simple for a while with a few shorter trips. The longer ones need a different approach with fuel, spares, provisions & vehicle preparation.
Happy travelling.

G'Day ianmac
Sorry for the vagueness of my introduction, Dawn and I have completed all of the capital cities throughout this great land, and now it's time to take those left and right turns of the major hwys. We know for sure that our first big journey will be the 2006 Tamworth music festival. We can't make the 2005 one because "she who must be obeyed" doesn't finish work until march. While I've got you, our home base will be Darwin (NT) so how do I change Peter H (NSW)? We have a 1993 3Ltr LWB auto mitsubishi pajero, and our Jayco Heritage won't be ready for delivery until the middle of march 2005. We hope to do a lot of homework between now and then. until we hear from you we'll sign off for now. Hoping you and your family and friends have a Merry Christmas and an adventurest New Year.

Hi Peter,

You do the change under My Profile and Screen Name. I see that Johnno1 has started the Toyota-Nissan dialogue, so I wont add to that, as someone as astute as you would be a Nissan man anyways. If you have a pic and are having problems with the size you can email it to me and I can reduce the size of it, my emails behind my rig pic if you click on it. Toyota pics are easier to reduce as they naturally depreciate anyway., don't forget to have a few words in the area called "signature" or your rig pic wont be displayed.

Keep askin and we'll keep answerin.

Bonz

Peter, this site is a wealth of information and you will learn a lot here, I'm deslexic cos I just typed "will earn a lot" hahaha. We will try to keep the answers simple if we can. If you have a 4wd, join a 4wd club where you can learn a lot more about driver training and how others set up their rigs. the more you learn, the more you will enjoy.

Hi Peter and Dawn,

Welcome to this terrific site. If you think you are green, you should have seen me when I started! I was the city girl who couldn't be without a porcelain loo and a hairdryer! Now however I am completely converted to the travelling life with 4x4 and campertrailer! I have asked lots of questions on this forum and have been overwhelmed with the generosity that everyone shows. Mrs Al (Lyn) even converted my rig photo for me because I couldn't work out how to shrink it.
You've asked a couple of questions here, so lets see how I go. If you go to your member page you should be able to change your name so that it doesn't appear that you come from NSW instead of Darwin. When we travelled we kept in touch with the forum in various ways. There are lots of internet cafes out there, so I often logged in on them, or we used our CDMA phone connected to our laptop, which was slower but worked ok. No problems.
Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year. Hope we see you on the road next year - you should enjoy Tamworth!
Happy travels
Anni
