G'day Reto,

Did you drive all the way through the park to exit out the bottom? Trying to work out if its possible to get to Wave Hill Station by going through the park, and to see how long it would take.

Kind regards

G’day Beatit

I was driving from Victoria Hwy through Jasper Gorge - VRD Station – Humbert River Station – Humbert Track – Bullita HS – Bullita Stockroute – Victoria Hwy.

Heading south on the Wickham/Gibbie Track, you enter the Buntine Hwy next to the community of Kalkaringi. The alternative is the Broadarrow Track an you hit the Buntine Hwy 75 k’s west of Kalkaringi.

This information you get on a factsheet from the NT Parks & Wildlife Commission. See link below
Download: Factsheet Gregory NP

You find a much better brochure in boxes entering the park. If it’s useful for you, I can scan this document and send to you by email. If so, please let me know.

G'day Reto,

Thanks for the info. We had a long weekend here hence the delay in my reply. Just have to consider if going to Wave Hill will be worth the diversion from going to the Kinberley AND if my fellow travellers (all towing trailer) are happy to take the Gregory tracks (your photo suggest a rough track - but we have this type of travelling before on the Cape on the OTT and Frenchman's track crossing the Pascoe).

Kind regards

Well, all packed and good to go, leaving tomorrow AM and won't be back until Wed. I'll post any decent photos and track notes.

Thanks for the photos!

Many tracks currently closed, check at National Parks office at Timber Creek before you go.

Hi,

Should have checked before leaving, the main track I wanted to use was closed.

I was planning on coming in from the north, spending a night at Limestone Gorge, then heading out through the Humbert track, spending a night at one of the camp sites on the Humbert, then on to the end of the Humbert track where is marries up with the Buchanan hwy, and then heading out through VRD, Top Springs then back to to Katherine via the Buntine.

Unfortunately the Humbert was closed. I spent a night at Limestone Gorge, which I had to myself, (rough road the last couple of hundred metres to the campsite, like a rocky creek bed) then drove to Bulita homestead, had a look around, and then drove back to the vic hwy and then south along the Buchanan Hwy, through VRD. Spent the night camped by Victoria River (lovely spot to camp, but no actual campsite there), then home again via Top Springs and the Buntine Highway.

The section of the Buchanan hwy that goes through the Jasper Gorge is magnificent, and worth driving through.

The NT parks do a very good job with the production of the fact sheets and maps, it was just a pity that the tracks south of Bulita were all closed (and no explanation of why).

Still, for someone living in Darwin, its a good long weekend trip.
