Just wondering how many people are modifying their driving habits due to high fuel prices?
A - Driving with a lighter foot
B - Staying at home more
C - Using public transport
D - Car pooling etc..
E - No change at all.
Please choose all that apply :)
Some are saying there is less traffic on the road. I know of at least one guy quoting high fuel prices as a reason for not going away for a w/e trip.
I'd appreciate some feed back - Thanks

SWMBO has dictated that we use her shopping trolley more than usual. I may have to get a special dispensation to use the truck other than for earning an income - bugger :(
I guess that would be D on your list

A,B,D and the following:
If you want a much better rate of economy try these things:
1. Take out all unnescessary crap like golf clubs, dogs, wife, kids 5% savings
2. Inflate tyres to 45 5% savings
3. Drive with light foot up to 10% savings
4. service injectors 5%
5. Take off roof racks up to 15%
6. Ad acetone according to the advertised formula add up to 25% milage
I have done all and are getting about 30% extra kms per
tank in all of my 1HZ toyotas. It really works. I should be getting 65% better but it doesnt work that way.
To learn about acetone try this site

A. Although we still go away, we drive slower ( about 90) on the open road. I keep an eye on the mirror though and always let people past, or speed up to the speed limit if people can't get past, then slow down and let em through when conditions allow. For commuting we have a car for a run around and I ride a pushy to work which I enjoy more than driving anyway.

gazza...
mainly a bit of A for me
- i can't stop driving my car as i need it for work...
- public transport can't get me to where i wanna go... or my normal day to day running around....
- can't car pool as no-one from work lives near me ................ (or i don't live near them ?)
- normal driving pattens (swirving, running up gutters, turning without blinker etc etc etc ha ha ha !) haven't changed (yet)
funny thing though... i recieved an email yesterday re: Fuel Free Day across Australia to 'bugger up' the suppliers...... on 15 Sep 2005.... ... then got another email today...... date has changed to 20th Sep 2005..!

No not bored - flat out busy actually but had to have my periodic glance at the system and though it could be worth adding to the poll system. I takes only seconds to load - then again we have not used it for ages so the whole thing could crash. I will leave it but remember his function is available just let me know if you want something loaded.

Once a month was the norm, now will be every 6-8 weeks.

E. Prices always go up. They very rarely go down. I wouldn't eat less because food prices go up....Having said that, if fuel prices really go through the roof, I might need to work harder and miss a few meals to afford the fuel !
What I would really like to know is if anybody has cancelled an outback trip because fuel prices are up. Between January & June prices in
Birdsville were same or cheaper than Sydney/Melbourne/
Adelaide and I have yet to hear of anybody cancelling because of fuel prices. I'd be very surprised if, after months of planning, taking leave from work etc., anyone would cancel a trip because they had to pay a couple of hundred more on fuel....

Karsten I would probably be a bit more circumspect about the way I drive but in July we found the prices in Queensland weren't too bad in comparison to country Victoria, NSW and South Australia as you already note. I do wonder about people towing heavier vans about though.

Yup, know of one trip that had 6 on it, 2 left now. and of 1 trip totally cancelled.
people work on the idea if it gone up 30cents here, ti will have gone up 50 cents there ontop of what was already expensive (yes tpt costs etc)...
some people are on TIGHT budgets, they have no choice.

We down graded from the landcruiser as it was just too expensive for everyday running to and from work. And have also bought a LPG commodore for all driving that does not need the 4x4. You got to cut costs somewhere.

E for me and
Yes, still planning on a three month deserts trek next year and factoring $2.00/lt in on budget. Also going to Mebourne return later in the year, and then
Sydney return. Luckily we live in a small town so commuting is one or two km.
Have thought of driving slower and going to
Port Augusta tomorrow(260km return trip) so I will see if I can sit on 90km lol
Here in the outback it would seem that there are even more trucks, b doubles and roadtrains on the road

Sit on 90 there then fill up, then on the way back sit on 110 then fill up again when you get
home and see how much fuel you save.
Just an idea to see how much more efficient you run.
Slower you are burning less fuel but for longer
Faster you are burning probably only a fraction more but for a shorter tim

I hope you are not suggesting you will get better economy doing a quicker speed Exploder because the fuel savings from 80- 90 to 110 especially in a large 4by are not only
well documented but also
well known. I dont think anyone believes the quicker you go the more fuel you save (too a point to lower speeds can also be uneconomicle)

No, That is just my aviation studies coming out. I.E a gas turbine engine will use a shi* load more fuel when going slower or going faster at a lower altitude than if it was flying higher, Yes there are a lot more factors at play with these beast’s.
But back to car’s, there is always a point between Speed and RPM where a engine is going to be burning the lest amount of fuel for the distance travelled, but once agene there are many factors that Decide were that is.

A and B for us definitely! With both of us commuting (in different directions) to work and hubby driving out into the country for his flying lessons, our weekly fuel bill has blown out to around $220 minimum. Big incentive to car
pool or use public transport - unfortunately neither are workable options. And yes, fuel prices are impacting on our decision on where and even if to go away on the upcoming long weekend.

We didn't stop eating because the price of food went up - and is going up further fast due to "fuel levies" on goods transported
I still go to what work i have because i would be in worse financial strife without income, and go to job interviews trying to get a better paying job, then find out they don't pay enough to be worth my while to drive to them - "i didn't want your lousy job anyway so I'm glad you didn't choose me"
I drive slow enough as it is, and i need the time to work in
I still have to go to medical appointments
My holiday fund is getting smaller, as is the distance it will take us
We're getting older and more pains in the joints for climbing to see those
views when we get there
We need 4WDs here - it not exactly flat country, and this year the ground is pretty wet
My Commodore i use just to go to work failed to start twice today - twice my husband had to come into town to rescue me (more fuel). Second time the bonnet catch broke, it was pouring rain and very cold so i left it where it was
AND DIESEL PRICES KEEP GOING UP - GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRR
One unhappy chicky

give it over, as distibuter your testimonials are worthless but yet you have been given at least 2 opportunities to have the fitch tested by
Forum members and you have been silent. Testimonials from unbiased members of this site is all that count and positive ones would certainly earn you big bucks - yet from all the members from every corner of the country on this
forum Only 1 has or knows someone with a fitch - and at this early stage his testimaonials are less than glowing

HI Bushfix, Mate it is a pretty simple statement have something to say when you know what you are saying, this is not directed to you but to those who bag what I am trying to help all with. This may well be the end of my input to this
forum unless I am directly asked a question. But please remember I am a licenced mechanic and have been running my own workshop for some 25years and I most certainly know what I am about, and one thing is to cease being badgered by those who dont understand the fundamentals of the internal combustion engine and what occurs when fuel burns in these engines. So thank you and I will bow out until recalled.
