I am wondering if any forumites have a Coromal Silhouette Off Road Camper Trailer with a Queen Size bed actually inside the camper. (Not the end fold out type).
I want to buy a new one and I would like to see some photos of one before I take the plunge. As they are made in WA and I live in Bathurst it is a bit too far for a weekend drive to have a look at one. There are none in any dealers around here or the Sydney area. Our local dealer is arranging some photos for us to see but I would like to see if anyone out there has one and how it is going and your thoughts in general on how the camper performs. I have an existing Camp-O-Matic Camper which I am going to sell but just want to do my homework before we place our order for the Silhouette.
Thanks for any advice.

Dear Bigfella,

Plenty on show at a dealership in Nowra if you are down that way.

I think that Wombat has one and raves about it.

To be honest, I have changed my outlook from getting a Hardcore C/T to one of these to be more family friendly, for my own personal reasons.
At the end of the day, you get what suits your needs and requirements.
No right or wrong, just so long as you use it, I reckon.

I used to be happy camping in a swag when touring on my dirtbike, but getting hitched changes your priorities, and hey - there's nothing wrong with camping in comfort, rght?

Do a forum search and make sure that you select to search the archives as well.
Use the term Silhouette, and you should get the desired results.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Davo
Just get out there and do it !!

I've had ours for a couple of years now and extremely happy with it. In July we gave it it's first real test, Innamincka and Birdsville. We went via the Flinders and the old Strezlecki Track then Cordillo Downs to Birdsville and down the birdsville track. Those that were out that way will know that I mean "test", the roads were incredible, but the Coromal took it all in it's stride. The bottom of door frame wore through, where it hangs on the 2 pins, but the staps held it up fine. Apart from that, nothing broke, came unstuck or otherwise caused a problem.

I will be in Bathurst with the van race week and you can have a look at it if you like. I will be arriving on the Sunday pre and will be camping in the officials park behind the paddock. reply to this post if you would like a look, and we can work out getting you my phone #.

happy trails, Mike.

I know what those roads are like as my post above about my recent trip to Birdsville will tell you. If you have the bed inside and not folded out at both ends then I would like to have a look at it for sure. If that suits you then E-Mail at lagerman@tpg.com.au and we can swap phone numbers and I can contact you while you are in our fine city.
Thanks for the reply

Ours has the pull out beds so I can't help you with your specific question Big fella, but overall we are extremely happy with the build quality from Coromal. If you take the plunge I would suggest you try to specify an innerspring mattress as opposed to the high density foam which comes standard.

We bought our Coromal Silhouette Camper (no fold out ends) twelve months ago and with a few modifications find it a very comfortable rig. As it is not an off-road model, can't comment on rough conditions but we have spent approximately three months (10,000 kms) in it with no great problems.
On saying that we did reinforce the bed base, instal gas struts and replace the mattress with a good innerspring.
The strip of fabric which joins the bottom frame to the top canvas absorbed water after a storm but we rectified this by spraying it with canvas waterproofing on the inside. We have experienced wet windy weather and it all held together very well.
As there is ample bench space on either side of the seating for each of us to use when eating, to gain more room and flexibility we have removed the table & fittings completely and put down removeable washable carpet.
After our 16 foot poptop caravan towing this van is a breeze.
