G'Day,
Has anyone camped on the Murray just west of
Mildura at a spot called Ned's Corner.
Looking at going up there in the next few weeks, just need to find a
good camp site
Regards
Rolande

G'Day Bob,
Don't suppose you remember the name of the
camp site? Was it near Lock 7?
Thanks
Rolande

We have travelled several times from
Mildura -
Renmark both North & South of the
Murray River. The Southern track is the Old Mail Route and goes past Neds Corner which was bought a couple of years ago by some "Greenie Mob" from a friend of ours called Brian. Last time we saw it, at least when coming from the East, near Neds Corner there were signs & a
gate saying Private Property etc. (sort of like Trespassers Shot On Sight kind of thing), but the Old Mail Route IS a PAR (Public Access Route) and camping is permitted within 50m of the track. So don't be put off.
If there has been rain, or looks like it, the hard clay top track gets like an ice skating rink and the run off ditches are deep & welcome company for a few days.
Instead of Lake Culleraine, think about going to
Lindsay Island, part of Murray Sunset National Park, brochure available from Parks Victoria 13-1963 or www.parkweb.vic.gov.au , 2WD is OK if weather good.
The entrance to
Lindsay Island (approx 15km x 9km) is over a little log
bridge & there are heaps of lovely
riverside camp sites some with wooden benches & tables, and tracks to explore. You won't be sorry. Enjoy!

Hi Rolande, Last year (Sept) we came in from the Remark side of the old mail route and camped at
lindsay Island at
loch 14 (I think) beautifull spot right on the river all was
well till it rained one night. We were stuck for 2 days waiting for the tracks to dry enough to walk on let alone drive. The morning after we couldn't move the ute 10ft letalone hook the camper on. Needless to say we never completed the mail route. There are some nice spots to
camp but if it looks like rain get out unless you have time up your sleeve.

G'Day Athol,
Lock 7 is on
Lindsay Island, which is where we were looking to
camp.
Would this be the same place you mentioned?

Rolande

Rolande, I would say it would be, not real good at remembering numbers. There are some really nice spots along the river just downstream of the lock.

Hi Rolande.
I come from the
Mildura side,There are numerous campsites along the whole mail route from lock 8 right through to
wentworth.
Following the old Mail route if you have a map you can visit great sites just by hopping off the route and into the river.beaut spots around lock 8- just magic.
BUT be prepared to sit it out for a day or two if you get rain-IT is lile the proverbial skating rink if wet- you only wind up in difficulties! So light a nice fire - fish- and enjoy till it dies out!
