I haven't been along through there but from what I have heard you better take someone with you to open all the gates. It's all station country and there will be LOTS of gates.

Try the CFS map books - I don't have the appropriate ones really - map 273 in the Riverland and Murray Mallee takes you as far as Balah, but I guess you can probably get the rest from the CFS somehow.
They are quite inexpensive as books.
Ciao for now
Andrew.

no need to go thru sturtvale if your not going to
burra
from just inside the
SA border down via
Pine creek - Corella O/S down to Oakvale and then on down to
Morgan Vale (Danggali con. park) - pine Valley - Canegrass - Balah -
Morgan
or
thru Dangalli, Canopus - Hyperna thru Chowilla reserve to bitumen just out of
renmark but some 45klm from
Morgan
If you stick to main road ( if going via sturtvale) there are no gates on sturtvale as its all
grid all the way to
burra...not sure if its gates or grids on main drag from Oakvale to sturtvale though

I'm told there is a track up through
Gluepot Reserve but I've never investigated - it may
well meet up with one of those you mentioned.
Gluepot is (I guess) 20ks from
Morgan.
Ciao for now
Andrew.

there are lots of tracks carved out by leaseholders...which without approval we are not allowed to navigate...we are only allowed to stick to main roads.

We did a similar trip from
Burra last year with C/T - no problems at all. Heather had to stop knitting a (large) number of times to open gates though. We used the relevent RAA map for the SA leg and the NRMA map for the Eastern end and found these quite sufficient. We went East from just South of
Burra and headed ENE until we hit the Northern edge of Danggali NP just shy of
Morgan Vale (Ref. 33 13'36" , 140 32'47"), then North up to Oakbank (Ref. 33 03'16" , 140 33'44") then West again via
Loch Lilly (Ref.32 59'45" , 141 01'16") and Harriedale and South Ita and joined the Silver City Highway near Kudge or
Lake Kudge (Ref. 32 44'35" , 141 37'39") rather than via Coombah Roadhouse. We did this as an alternative to going to
Broken Hill etc. via the Barrier Highway.

Part 2 of my reply, sorry about this, I had to look up the details and then SWMBO wanted to go food shopping.
As I indicated, if you duck in off the Silver City Highway and go down to
Morgan Vale in Danggale C.Pk. , then , as Member No.1 said you can track through Danggali to the
Wentworth -
Renmark road past (or divert through if you like)
Chowilla Game Reserve to
Renmark then off to
Morgan. Try the
Lyrup to
Cadell road West of
Renmark and take in the lovely old Pub at Overland Corner where Captain Red somethin-or-others' ghost resides.
Danggali itself is an undiscovered S.A. secret with all sorts of stuff including 100km Nanya's Pad Interpretation Drive (marked posts , map available from near Canopus NPWLS
ranger is/was Arthur "Mate" Osborne, everyone calls him Mate, mate, Ph.08-8595-8010). Canopus Station has excellent standard (for the bush) shearers accomodation, exclusive use was $46 with varying accomodation for up to 10 people a night, dormitory accom. avail for up to 31 (they take the "trusties" there from time to time for rehab. work), one flushing loo, hot water for showers via donkey & firewood provided. Bookings at Canopus are via NPWLS at
Berri Ph.08-8595-2111 and NOT direct with Mate (or his wife Bernadette) . See Site Link
At Canopus there is a memorial. At some stage Canopus & an adjoining station (before they became a National Park) had a BBQ. All the
farm kids were taken on a trip in a plane which buzzed low over the
homestead & BBQ site & then promptly crashed killing everyone on board. All the kids. So sad.
