G'Day,
In few days, we'll start our road trip from
Darwin to
Perth. We drive a 4WD camper and plan to stay in caravan parks. I haven't booked anywhere to make our road more flexible but I wonder if it is not essential in some areas. Our route should be as follow :
Litchfield,
Kakadu,
Katherine, Alice Spring, Uluru, Kings Canyon,
Palm valley, Tanami, Purnululu,
Gibb River Road,
Broome, Karijini,
Cape Range,
Kalbarri, Nambung... All advice are welcome.
Juan

A round about way to get from
Darwin to
Perth !!!
Broome is the place where you should plan on missing...its not worth a squirt of hen's bleep and chances are you won't get to even
park in the main street let alone get a
camp site...and nobody there will give a bleep either ...tourists in
Broome are just like a cows udder...keep pulling and hope for the best ...they will take your dollars and give you .............

Juanmtz,
You know what? It's your plan and you do your trip however you want to. There are always people who will tell you not to go here, not to go there and then they will tell you that you haven't got enough time or your plan is bad. They can do their own trips. You didn't ask for a critique of your plan, nor did you ask for a view of any of the
places on your list.
I think that you should consider booking in
Broome. It's the one place that gets booked out because it is so popular. Funny that. Anyway, for what it's worth I enjoyed my stays in
Broome and I'm even going back again this year.
Have a great time
Viv

I agree with Viv, rarely have we had any props. in
Broome and most of the people there treat you as you treat them.
Except for the sour faced person at
Roebuck Bay C/
park. She could make lemons go off.
Loads of
places you can pull in off the road for an overnight stop. Buy a book called something like "
Free camping in WA" and that'll help a lot.
Have fun in your travels.
Alan.

re
Broome - you usually can't book in June/July (top tourist season) anyway - but if you get there and are told about the "overflow" parks - opt for the rifle club - it is in a terrific bush setting, bit rought and ready, but hot showers,
toilets, laundry etc - and a bonus on Thursday nights they have skeet shooting to watch for entertainment - the other overflows available were in big paddocks or sportsfields - and the rifle club is on the road to
the wharf, not far from
cable beach turnoff - good spot - we didn't book anywhere at all last year, but made sure we tried to get in by 3:30 -4 pm just to make sure - we also stayed in "free camps" a bit, which are great if you are prepared. Karijini - head to
Dales Gorge campground - terrific - and walking distance to gorges and walks - lovely spot - but again you need to be prepared - no power available here and no showers.
Cape Range - need to get in early - fills up pretty quick -
There is a campground at
Palm Valley - not a caravan
park - alsooo Purnululu - be prepaared to a 1 - 2 hour trip in over pretty rough road - but greatr
camping. - again no power or showers
have a great trip, but be prepared.
regards
jules

Thanks all. We'll probably stay no more than 1 night in
Broome because there is so much to see in your country and we have only 5 weeks.
Regards,
Juan
PS: the today temperature is 34°C in Paris/France
