Morning - just to let you know we have actually seen (heard) rain again - started with blustery windy showery weather about midnight, then storm around 3:00 a.m. and a total (so far) of 8.6 mm rain. Will have washed the world clean again (except for the muddy showers) - still too dark to tell what's going to happen next.

Yes unfortunatly, have just had to cancel our w/e 4wd club event at woomera as the roads we needed to travel on, on the range, have been closed.
Great rain though, excellent steady rain falling here at the moment, which is so much needed here in the Clare area, it can rain for the whole week if it likes.

Cheers Pesty

Ruth,

We're all hoping that this rain is going to turn into the rescue that so many of us need here in the north west of Vic. I know others need it too so hope that it is a general wide spread rain that is heading southwards.

All the best to those who may be held up on their trips because of the rain. Hope once it's passed that the sun shines and the tracks dry out so that you can continue on your way.

Best wishes

Viv

Hi Ruth

Can"t believe it actually has rained! One day we will be there to actually see it.
Home again now after a great trip. Thanks for the hospitality, we had a great time. Kids went back to school and Lachlan was asked to tell his grade about the best bit of the holiday.... " Ruth's milkshakes at Birdsville" was the reply!! Just thought I would let you know that your milkshakes beat canoeing through Lawn Hill, the fishing trip from Karumba and fossicking for topaz!!! We are all finding it difficult to adjust back to being home and feeling quite "caged" having to live indoors now! Melbourne really is not conducive to outdoor living at the moment!
Hope you and Ian are well.

Jen

Gday Andrew,
Nice to catch up in Birdsville! We didn't know Ruth made milkshakes. The highlights of our trip was Ian's cappuccinos and Ruth and Ians Big Breakfast - didn't need lunch that day!

Back to the grind eh....

Cheers

Hi Phil

Was great to meet you. I did notice Ian and Ruth fawning over you lot at the table that morning hahahha... she will be after me!! Last time I am offering her a special deal.

I have been back at work 3 days now. Grind is the right word.

Hope to see you on the road again some day.

The big rain has fallen at Durrie Station east of here about 110 klms on the Windorah Road - they'd had 31 mm at 10:00 a.m. and still raining.
Innamincka had about 5 mm but people are bogged on the Cordillo Downs road.
All roads in and out of Birdsville CLOSED today - except north to Boulia which is 4 WD only and no trailers or caravans. No rain here since this a.m. and I've got several lods of washing dry - light breeze, wind has moved around from NE and now NW, soon as it moves right around to the S or SE we'll know it's finished. Everything clean and sparkly - except for the MUD. Panic has eased in the park and
plenty of people have taken off in each direction badly cutting up the roads and even though the signs say the Roads are Closed.

Hello Mr and Mrs Pesty - we are very well thank you - and hope the same can be said of you. The Murray Bridge Club are doing well - had a report on them today - but it was pre-rain!!! We hope to see you next year - definitely going to Warraweena for 1 July Gathering - only 109 days to go from here to retirement! Will be in Birdsville for 5 months of winter next year (and each year) so going to Warraweena is a definite - and we want to see Jen (of Big Kidz) enjoy her birthday on that day. Might even sneak down a bit earlier and go fishing (like we planned).
We are going to be Grandies at long last - about February.
The rain has washed everything and smells nice - wind has shifted 180 so far today and becoming cooler as the day progresses - good sign the rain has gone. Not so much panic in the camp this year as previous years - plenty of warning also and we suggested people didn't camp down the bottom area - gets really sticky there. Simpson is open this afternoon and some have headed off - no-one has come out this side yet. Been really busy so nice to be able to stop and catch up a bit - Ian is up planning the next part of the shed to go in back of our new Birdsville house (second last before the Simpson - nice view of the billabong and that big sand hill behind the airstrip). See you soon.

Wow! They're brave heading off with the roads closed ... Isn't that a fairly hefty fine?

Ruthie, that is teriffic news I just had this www.bom.gov.au/nmoc/archives/Radar/ where you can browse the archives and load a 48 hour period loading a loop. You have a real gap there in the National radar so thanks for providing the information. Teriffic to see the changes though over the period.

Have watched Woomera Mildura and Alice Springs over the last day, and coming closer with Buckland POark and Mt Gambier for us now too. Teriffic to see.

Good rain here in the Hill too. Haven't got figures but it has been at it all day yesterday (Friday) and through the night some heavy stuff around 8 - 10pm. It's mostly drizzle this morning but still a few heavier showers.

As far as roads go if it aint sealed it aint open.

Ruth, is it spreading east and north of you? We are hoping to do Diamantina Lakes in early October, just hoping this will be an added top up to keep things fresh and clean for us.

Hi! Ruth,
Raining (just a light sprinkle) here in the Hunter Valley too. I've been praying to the rain god like all other farmers in Australia except possibly those on the north coast of Queensland. Thanks for the capuccino and talk - enjoyed your hospitality. Took your advice on a pie for lunch from the bakery. He talked me into a curried camel pie - yum.

Hi Ruth
Was great to put a face to the name when we were in Birdsville, unfortunately I spent most of our day there fixing a tyre at the servo so was unable to socialise.
Glad to hear you got some rain, figured you probably would as we listened to the reports on VKS.
After we left you we headed down across Walkers Crossing to Innamincka. The road was pretty good considering the dry conditions.
Spent two nights on the common and then on to Camerons Corner on the 12th which was the day the wind picked up as the front came across. Camped in Sturt NP and it blew all night.
Next day on to Tibooburra and then down towards White Cliffs. Looking to the north from Olive Downs we could see the huge dust cloud as QLD got blown west.
The rain started early friday morning and it was a very quick packup in pouring rain and then slip and slide into White Cliffs and the bitumen.
It then rained all the way across NSW to Sydney with only occasional breaks around Cobar and Bathurst.
We were amazed too at the number of people who came into White Cliffs from Wilcannia and were then intended to keep going across towards Tibooburra on CLOSED roads.
Peter
