We were refused fuel at Mt Dare and was told told to camp there and would be served fuel the next day. There were nine of us, I guess they just wanted to increase their bottom line. We finally swayed the owner to give us fuel but he made us wait almost two hours. I guess he needed to do a few things including sitting at the bar having a beer while we patiently waited until he was ready. We were all furious at the shameful service at Mt Dare, has anyone else experienced similar arrogance.

That would crap you off.
When you have to wait it seem's like your waiting for ever. But you can't go any where else.Just got to get into holiday mode.
I pulled in there last July and was told I would never make it over the simpson with only 210 litres on board towing a trailer.I thought i had resheached enough about the trip not to get that part wrong.
He told me i would need at least 250 litre's.
As you can emagine my wife thought we were going to run out of fuel and die.!!!
Well i didn't buy any of his jerrycan's or more fuel and made it across with 60 litre's to spare. Some times I just don't know, (what the!!)
Cheers

Hi Jeff,

We recommend 150 litres for diesel and 200 litres for ULP when crossing the Simson Desert. The average 6 cylinder diesel uses about 100 and ULP about 130/140 in normal conditions. Last July the whole desert country and approaches was innudated with water and was boggy. Freeth Junction had up to a metre of water over it in July when I crossed last year. Had you needed to retrace your steps that margin would have been needed. You say you used 150 litres as it was, more than an average crossing and didn't mention being blocked in your crossing. When turns bad you just don't want to be there and otherwise it is a great adventure.. We prefer you to have the latter.

Last year there were deaths on the Talawana Track and Walkers Crossing with both vehicles involved running out of fuel. Nobody wants this to happen to anyone. We are here to advise not dictate. We hope you all have an enjoyable desert experience because we want you to visit again.

Enjoy it all!!
Regards
Ian@Mt Dare

Hi Jeff,

dave has some help at the moment, apart from me, so is going gangbusters. We should be in serving grog before the end of the month and the new kitchen will follow next year. We will announce the official opening gig closer to the time. You will all be invited.

It will be novel having a roof and all sorts of normal things.

Cheers

Ian @ Mt Dare

George,

In Internet terminology, a TROLL is someone who comes into an established community such as an online discussion forum, and posts inflammatory, rude, repetitive or offensive messages designed intentionally to annoy and antagonize the existing members or disrupt the flow of discussion.

If that is all they had to pay i would think that is good value as it is an out of the way place to have fuel and supplies delivered to (unless they have done something to the roads into MtDare). As different to Inaminka which is probably more and has a very good road(highway) right to it!!

It is quite a remote location and if you doing something like the Madigan Line
it is last place you can fillup before goin into the desert. If you are worried about
the price work out how much it would of cost ya if you took all this fuel with ya
on the trip so that you didn't had to refuel there....

Don't know why you are belly aching about fuel prices like that. This time last year we paid $1.69 for diesel at Nanutarra Roadhouse while it was $1.30 in Perth and Nanutarra is on a bitumen highway.

I know that I hear that some places even make you wait until their weekend is over. If you aren't set up for extended hours as the trade is low, how can you blame em.

We have passed thru there many times - they offer a fantastic service.

Last month when we were there, one vehicle had an issue with his (petrol) long range tank. To not fix it would mean the end to his northern simpson desert crossing and all the staff were away except for one guy. He let our group use the hoist and had us going again in no time. Would never get service like that it town.

Sounds like you may have an attitude problem, if this post is anything to go by.

We were there 4 weeks ago and found them very helpful and enjoyed food and a quiet little drink . Maybe stay in the city where there is plenty of competition and you can always drive down the road. Why did'nt you leave and go to Fink!!!!!

Site Link its easy enough to get there

Who would have thought that firey was as manipulative enough to leave out half the story like arriving after the fuel station was closed and 3/4 of the staff off having a meal. Nah, he wouldn't do that, not half. He just wanted to flame Mt Dare

Can`t believe your report on bad service at Mt Dare; stayed there overnight on the 18th /6/06 and had great service from Ian and his wife.Filled up 3 vehicles immediately,we stayed in rooms next to the old pub ,had a nice fire and a good kitchen.
Nothing was too much trouble and Ian could not have been more courteous, providing us with track info to Old Andado and surrounds as well as info on Aboriginal land no go areas.
