Interesting post Firie.

You forgot to tell them that you arrived after dark and with unlit fuel bowsers still wanted fuel. You had the intention, as you did, to continue your travel in the dark. We advise all travellers against travel after dark because of the increased risk of vehicle damage and potential injury. It is usually us or station owners who coordinate the RFDS when such incidents occur. We don't whinge about, we get on with it. At this very moment Dave, the principal of Mt Dare, is recovering a bogged tourist north of here in the dark.
You arrived at a mealtime. We have a population of 4, half the permanent staff were preparing meals. Yes I was in the bar with customers.
If the gas station is closed in the city do you insist it reopen?
You weren't charged än "out of hours" surcharge applicable at many outback establishments which we could have charged if we wanted to increase our bottom line. I ask others "has anyone else experienced similar arrogance".

By the way the roads have improved with a strong wind today and the rain system has passed. There is standing water on roads north and south of here but remain navigable. The track to Old Andado from Mt Dare is under water at the Finke washout and isn't suitable for traffic for a few days. The Simpson is open with flood bypasses open south and west of Dalhousie.

Life resumes!

Regards
Ian@ Mt Dare

I was hoping you would respond Ian, as I thought there would be another side to the story.

Too many people in too much of a hurry to care about what other people get up to, when they're not serving the public.

Will get out to see you mob one day. In the meantime, enjoy the rain.

Regards, Trevor.

Yes, good reply Ian.

I think most of us figured Firie was a d!ckhead and chose to ignore his condemnation of Mt Dare.

Some people obviously think the world revolves around them and what they want to do NOW and bugger anyone else.

So, Firie......get a life.

I back you up too Ian, reminds me when we where camped south of the Roper River a few years ago. About 5.30PM about 12 or 15 vehicles with camper trailers doing like 80/90 kph putting up dust into our camping area (about 10 sites) like they were late for a funeral. So if you don't have time to do the big trip people don't stress your selves and others.

Ian, it's a sad reflection on modern life to witness the impatients of travellers these days. Wound up like a spring they leave the city on their tight schedules expecting McDonalds like service from often under staffed establishments like Mt Dare. I on the other hand can't believe how you can sell fuel so cheap & appreciate the simple treat of eating a Magnim icecream in such a remote location:-) It ceases to amaze me how people driving $50,000+ cars quip over a few extra dollars on the bill despite being over 800km from the nearest city.
Once again we had great service from you & Dave during our Madigan trip & look forward to the new pub being open next time we pass through.
Cheers Craig............

There are always 2 sides to every story aren't there Ian.

Must admit we had a very pleasant nights stay at Mt Dare 12 months ago, at that time with Simon and Dave. (Coincidently we had a Simon and Dave in our group.)

Bar takings certainly got a boost that night !!! as did the RFDS with the donations made to hang the 'Port MacDonnell Tuna comp' beanie LOL. My DH even had a job offer while there.

Mt Dare is one place we will be visiting again

Hello Mrs S,

Long time no hear. I was just about to tell the same story and saw your post. That was indeed a great night with some top class singing! The hospitality that night was second to none, from the staff, the dog and even the horse. Like you I would have no hesitation in going back.

By the way, I have moved again. I am now living near Jervis Bay, NSW.

Oh yeah and you better tell Dave I have bought a Patrol! Why did I wait so long?

Cheers

Simon

Ian, I haven't been to Mt Dare yet, but great to see you remember the guy and put us in the picture. Much as I had surmised could happen. I just wish he had to wait longer. He certainly would have done at Rabbit Flat. There is so much crap posted here badmouthing worthy people.

Good to post it.

Saw a sign in a shop that said “Rude customers generally attract bad service”, and so it should be. Too many people think that the world revolves around them, I think those people should stay in their own world.

Top spot Mt Dare, was there last year in August and will be there again in 2 weeks on the 31st July.

I was at Mt Dare 2 weeks ago after crossing the Simpson and Ian and his team could not have made us feel more welcome. He was busy that morning with a repair to a fuel tank on a Kia as well as having to re-fuel two choppers with AVGAS (what a way to tour the outback!) but he was still friendly and helpful. We were served a hot brekkie and re-fueled in good time...considering we go to the outback to get away from the hustle and bustle, what's the rush anyway?

Top job Ian, don't let impatient idiots get you down, the other 99.9% of customers appreciate the work you do.

I for one have visited Mt Dare twice. And like most outback establishments are amazed and the level of service and commitment. I'm sure the 'BOYZ' would only last 5 minutes.

I am in a public business and the odd ungrateful can nag at you. Remember they are only the 1% that think they can buy you body and soul for $1, with common courtesy a one way street; the other 99% make the job more than worthwhile and enjoyable.

Keep smiling
