Tell us about the new truck - is it the "F-truck" in your rig photo? Are you planning on keeping the tub?

Cheers

Don't worry about that - just saw you had another post. Saw a GMC out on the Madigan line this year!

10para,
The GMC we saw in the desert was a Left Hand drive owned by someone from Alice Springs. It was one hell of a big truck that had everything that opened and shut - even had a proper cappuccino machine in the back ! We followed their tracks for a while - he'd ironed out every spinfex clump on the track! Not sure whether they had any issues with it, but we came across them on the Hay River with a highlift jack on the front wheel and they said they were checking out the ECU - if you can figure that one out, you're a lot better than me :-))))

But they managed the Madigan Line to camp 16, then south to the QAA and into Birdsville. Had another vehicle with them.

Phil, wasn't a gold one was it? There was a gold one on the Oodnadatta at William Creek the day we stopped on the way back. EO sticker on the back too. Had been to the Outback Challenge. Understand it had the coffee machine in too. Was told by one of the OBC crew here it was Fred, out here for a few months with his truck.

Hi John,
Can't be too many GMCs with coffee makers out there :-)) We saw them at Camp 15 on June 11, then in Birdsville June 16. Had a Defender with him. I would have guessed it was them. He was a friendly guy - had a strong American accent. The truck had a custom made everything on the back - had the sand plates on the side, rack up top with tyres. Thought it was silver, but I'm hopeless with colours.

Cheers
phil

Saw Fred having a coffee at William Creek, on the 23rd May opposite side of the road to the pub. They had nice cherry cake at the cafe at $1.00 a slice so bought more for supper that night, it was a bargain.

Yes, the sand ladders on the side and all.

Try Candy Canvas at Tintanarra?? in SA. They have a roof topper that fits onto the top but they supply canopies too.

That is a Gadabout built in Gympie!
Details at gadabout.com.au - designed by Ralph Kelly whose details are on the site. Ralph developed it over a few years - improving the concept after each trip, and then eventually putting it into production.

Para, depends a bit where you live but Metal Form Industries at Warragul in Victoria will tailor what you want. I know they have made our camper to our design and also have made the camper for Chris D (Newcastle) too more recently.

I had a close up look at one a few weeks ago, and the build quality is fantastic.

As others have said, it's a Gadabout and is available from Gympie ARB.

cheers

I'm going through the same process at the moment for our Landrover 130. There are any number of people that seem to be able to do it. I've been in contact with Obieco in Tamworth as they build the Telstra vehicles, however on all indications they appear expensive. I am also talking to Caragher Steel in Bega NSW. They built a pod for Craig Lewis from Boiling Billy Publications. If you go to the Boiling Billy website you will see a picture of the vehicle.

I have also looked at Candy Canvas in SA and Metal Form Industries in VIC. All appear to customise to your need.

I was in the Shippe Shape tent website last night and I see someone advertising on their site (Dave) regarding the manufacturer of canopies.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on.

I am Gadabout. This is one of my vehicles. We build the complete unit - steel tray with timber floor and all alloy camper body - to suit Toyota and Patrol Utes. If you are interested in this unit on your vehicle a quote can be forwarded to yourself. We also have a completed unit with all the optional extras for sale at the present time - 79 Series Turbo Charged.

Try Giblins in Geebung, they do a lot of stuff like that for Telstra trucks and the like.
