What fuel burn do other get on hear in there 4BY’s just out of interest in day to day driving.

Just calculated mine for the week averaged
12.4 per 100, 4Ltre V6 Petrol with a 5speed Auto,

I was a little surprised, but I don’t do much driving in traffic being I am on the road at 5:00am to go to work.

This should be interesting, I love reading about someone 'consistently getting 8.7l / 100km in a petrol LC/Patrol'. Ok that was an exaggeration, but so are some of the 'legit' figures. It just turns into a bleep contest whereby some round off or fudge their economy numbers.

What ? Shock, horror !! Are you suggesting someone replying on this thread may be cooking the books ??? LOL

Overall, after almost 2.5 years through varied driving conditions, I've travelled 60,009kms and used 7,140.7 litres at a cost of $7,932.36 (that's anal, eh?).

That should give an average around 11.9l/100km. A normal week's driving generally returns 11.7l/100km

that makes your average fuel cost $2.15 a litre?
10000 at 9.3 per 100 equals 930 litres. $2000/930 litres equals $2.15 a litre

thats pretty dear!

12.5l/100km is the best not towing and 13.5l/110kms towing. The worst 14.5l/100kms not towing and 16.5l/100kms towing(did get up to 18l/100kms but had stuffed fuel pump and injectors).I drive pretty carefully now fuel is so dear so could do alot worse with heavy foot.Vehicle is HZJ105 Cruiser towing Tambo Cooper camper.
Personally Im not real impressed with these figures considering the lack of power it has(compared to the T/D Cruiser).

13.8
12.1
13.6
13.0
12.7
12.2

1993 80 series with 1HDT 4.2 Turbo Diesel, 33" muddies, 2" lift and usual bars, winches, etc adding to the weight to lug around.

These are figures from trips, not round town. Use the wife's Corolla for that (again litres / 100km):

7.7
7.9
9.7
7.0
6.2

Man look at all those gas slurping 4WD LOL.

I personally think those figures are pretty bloody good considering the average 4WD weighs in at around 2Ton and has the aerodynamics of a house brick.

Just talking to a mate in the U.S, and did some conversations he is currently paying $1 per litre for Fuel in AUS $, we are paying 1.37 a litre in Perth. Makes you a little angry doesn’t’ it LOL

I've never had anywhere NEAR that Robin. The little 3 litre is no where near big enough to push a 2500kg (with all my standard stuff in it) vehicle any where near efficiently as a larger engine would. You sure you aren't running a 2.8 diesel?

They are rated at 14lt/100km , mine's was a little less than rated, like the 4800Gu now, because mostly drive conservativily.

Maybe need to check electrically heated element below carbie as per my reply

I tend to think that the official ratings don't consider real world use. I live in a mountainous area - not on the Pacific Highway.

Even before I turfed the pre-heater I was getting the same consumption. Removing it made no real difference. Adding extractors did though...

Hi Omaroo

Yes I see that your 4.2 is a fair bit up over rated to, so guess the hills don't help
. Cold fuel doesn't vaporize to well either, but then those carbie heaters were an expensive pain.

I get excellent fuel economy in my 4wd. 0 litres used with 0 kms driven. I am between 4x4s at the moment.

However I calculated my work utes economy the other day. 14.48 litres per 100km. That is over 3 tanks of fuel and mostly between 100 and 120 km/h with some town driving.

2003 Landcruiser V8, I have had this vehicle 6 months now and checked the fuel consumption a few times, mostly driving to the speed limit, some 4 wd no towing at this stage, and mostly using fuel from same service station, this is the result,
ltrs per 100 klm
11.98
13.72
13.60
13.40
15.00
14.46
average out at 13.65

I dont think this is bad for this vehicle and I am happy with, it but do understand that when towing I wii be using a fair bit more, but then again so does every vehicle.

03 Fender TD5 ... bog standard (loaded to the gills) with s/panel over cab + lightly loaded roof rack .. (high lift, awning, shovel, long rope + spare tyre case). Towing CT about 1000kg+.

Push on black 100-110 kph ... 16.4 l/100km (worst)
Take it easy on back roads 80-90 kph .... 13.5l/100 km (best)

Significant difference, but not too bad I suppose, given the all up load.

Who cares? Whatever it takes.

As long as there's enough in the tanks for me to do what I want to do, when I want to do it and at the speed I want to do it at, I'm happy. When it gets low, I top them up. Easy. Life's too short to worry about things you can't control.

The more folks out there who crap themselves over rising fuel prices the better IMHO. The end result will be cheaper 4x4's and less people out and about. Suits me just fine.

Is the Chev that bad is it LOL

I think you have my Question all wrong, not trying to figure out running costs with the price of fuel, just interested in what other Rigs out there pull Consumption wise.

The way I look at fuel is I need it so I buy it, simple, if it gets to the point I can’t afford it, I downsize, but that isn’t going to happen anytime soon LOL, in fact I think I might upsize my CID shortly LOL.

My 4.2TD GU has averaged about 15.6L/100klm until now; being my daily driver.

Now it sits in the carport at least 5 days a week without getting fired up; cos I've got the little Feroza for around town. I haven't had it long enough to do any figures yet but it's hardly moved off full and I've done over 100klm in the last week. Holds 60 litres according to the book, so I shouldn't have to fill it very often.

The Patrol will now only be swung into action for outa-town trips of at least 100klm or night trips (as the Frozie has a intermittent headlight issue that I gotta get sorted).
