I have just watched TOdayTonight & the usual story about 4wd owners was shown.
Did anyone else see the story?

Yes....another typical story against 4WDrivers. I have just posted a response(polite) on their website. I suggest everyone else does the same.
Gary.

Finally saw what that goose looks like on TV. Man he really hates 4wd's ay.

I wonder with the footage they showed of 4wd'ers making errors on public roads, how much footage of the same thing they had to cut through with people doing the same thing in your average car.

Some people must have a boring job to sit there and edit so much video to find what they are looking for.

I wonder if there has been a survey done on drivers of the new breed of turbo rocket ships that use our roads as the local drag strips!! I bet not.

Totally agree with you there cokeaddict, With the amount of 4bys on the road to cars I reckon it took them a while to get what they wanted and then yes to do all that editing, still a bunch of wankers either way, as vince said I wonder do they consider that some young dick head in his nissan 200sx, or the p plater in the wrx with his turbo blow off valve would be any more of a danger doing 200klm up the M4 in sydney weaving in and out between our 4wdrives,mmm maybe next time I'll change lanes in front of them so they run up and under my arse maybe that would be a danger, I wonder if the head lines would read, P PLATER RAN UP THE BACK OF 4WD AND WAS KILLED BY THE REAR BULL BAR ON HILUX. Still say buch of bleep s. Regards Steve M

Get a life, you think I would really do that and endanger my life or any body's for that matter, you sound like you stick up for the likes of scooby doo and his dick head friends, I was stating a fact that Im sick of hearing on the news about Bullbars and how they kill people, Run out in front of any vehicle at 100 or 60 and walk into the path of a 4wd or hiace or pantex or susuki viatara etc with or with out a bull bar and your history, settle down And if you think the program is right maybe you should sell your 4by if you own one and buy a scooter or better walk. I wonder if all Henry1947 are absolute d***heads like this one!!!

This is obviously a good example of the illogical position of the anti fwd crowd.

Cheers.

I oppose scooby in his attitude since he is so biased in his view, and only makes statements in the general context, not allowing for individuals 4wders who do the right thing by society.
The responses to henry1947 maybe shows that there also is a bit of feral in some 4wd'ers?

Stephen,

Yes, it has been known for me to take off a little slower than normal when I can only see the rear of the roof behind me through the rear vision mirror.
Find it very fustrating, they come right up one's rear, then pass and zoom off, and then when I am up to cruising speed, they sit that 5k under the speed limit and I can not get past them.
Oh well, no ones perfect :-)).

Hi there Oldplodder, wasnt having a go at you in any way, yes there is a little bit of feral in all of us at some stage, and yes totally agree with you in regards to them zooming past then backing off that little bit when you have just wound the vehicle up to cruising speed, probably not so bad for you with turbo but really annoying in the old 2.8D hilux so much response when you put the pedal down NOT. have a great night regards Steve M

Yep. Saw the researcher asking for people to take part some months ago. Made some enquiries and found that participants were to be put in cars they hadn't driven before and made to drive around a predetermined route.
In other words they have judged 4wd owners on the basis of how a 4wd is driven by someone who probably has never driven anything bigger than their Excel.
Didn't bother going any further.
So most of the "dangerous" 4wd drivers had probably never driven a 4wd before.
Legitimate research, I think not!
A more valid research project would have been to monitor the driving style of some of the idiots in thier modified Commodes. (Any one else notice how often the news story about the young driver who hits a tree and kill everyone in the car is driving an old modified Commode!)

I missed it so a search of their web page shows nothing about the story so if you can find it, that would be great.

What about their "FAIR GO, Have you been the victim of an injustice?" reply to them.

You are correct!. There is no mention on the todaytonight web site. Funny about that.
Have a look at post 36309, it covers the same topic.

Once again they are into us. They were going on about vehicles over 2 tonne requiring a special licence, so i wonder if that would include towing larger boats, large trailers ect behind a std car which would be far more dangerous.
They must be desperate for stories once again?

Two tonnes could be interesting.
2 tonnes empty of loaded?
My paj is under 2 tonnes empty (1870kg).
Falcons and commodores are over 2 tonnes loaded.
Besides all of the mercs, RRs, BMWs etc well over 2 tonnes.

I tend not to worry about them toooo much as my cars are only 2wd in suburbia & 4x4 off road so they can say what they flippin like.

Just ignore it. As long as there are 4x4 s there will be negative stories. I have found the majority of 4x4 drivers are responsible and curtious. There is a few knobs but there are some knob car drivers too.

Based on the reasoning of their story - that being people who got behind the wheel of a large vehicle under went a personality change, then all truck driver's, bus driver's, van driver's, ambulance driver's etc must be extremely dangerous! Which in turn means people who drive toy cars definitely must undergo strict driver training before they can drive any vehicle bigger than the toys they drive!
If you put anyone behind a vehicle different in size from what they were used to driving, would you see some sort of a different behaviour until the novelty wore off ?
Interesting how the study only focused on people new to being behind the wheel of a 4x4 vehicle but not on people who regularly drove 4x4's. Interesting how it also completely avoided stating how long these people were effected with this so called personality change, nor what size vehicle they regularly drove - I wonder why.

To those of you that are so worried about this, why don't you do something positive with your lives instead of hanging out here worrying about it. There is a groundswell of movement being instigated by one of the 4by magazines that is taking a positive step to promote 4wd as a legitimate form of transport. Get off your backsides and get involved.
Cheers
